Emergency Room Volunteer Program

December 2018

1. Had a meeting with Doc Ramirez. Presented the

proposal for the ERVP SHS immersion and the plan to have two
schedules a day for the program. Doc Ramirez agreed to review
the proposal.
2. A week after the meeting, passed the ERVP SHS
immersion and the new schedule proposal.

January 2019

1. Papers are still pending. There’s still no approval from

Doc Ramirez to run the program.
2. After several follow ups to the DMER, this week, the
DMER secretary informed the hospital affairs team that the
letters/proposal were endorsed to the new DMER chair, Aileen
Cynthia F. De Lara, MD, thus ervp is still on hold for review and
implementation.

Revised ERVP orientation flow:

Rationale: Basic set-up and information of the ER will be

discussed to the volunteers aiming to have a two-way
communication with the Junior Interns (JIs), Physicians,
Nurses and other health care team whenever the ER’s benign.

 Guidelines for the program.

 Emergency Room basic information and set-up (see
attachment: ERVP handout)
o The facilitator will provide handouts. Volunteers
may ask the ER team for questions.
 Medical emergency case analysis (see attachment: ERVP
cases) would be given prior to the program. They can
start working with it before the ervp and may also get
some help from the JIs & nurses (during their free time)
in solving the case.
 The case analysis is not an evaluation. It only exposes the
volunteers to some emergency room cases and will help
them interact more with the healthcare team and further
expand their knowledge on the situations inside the ER.

**we need to ask an expert to validate the contents of both the

handout and the cases.
