Dani and Lizzy Nelson, singers and song writers of “Dancing in The Sky” are twins
located in Vancouver, Canada who have multiple songs released. The song was created when a
close friend passed away and became a way to deal with their grief and give tribute. Like many, I
have lost some one very close to me and this song resonates with my heart and is relatable,
bringing me peace as I listen knowing that my loved one is in heaven enjoying themselves and
doing things stated in the lyrics. Before the song was released on the social media application
Facebook, I had no interest or history of the performers, nor did I interest myself into finding out
other music performed by them. Dani and Lizzy seemed to have written the song for comfort and
peace by using pathos.
The song itself has a slow and calming tone to it. The dramatical effects appear through
the lyrics. Relating to their listeners as most have experienced a loss of a love one and have gone
through the many emotions of losing that someone and have had questions such as the lyrics
pose. For instance, the first line of the song starts with “Tell me, what does it look like in
heaven?”. Line eight begins the chorus which is repeated later in the song and represents the
singers finding hope that the person who passed is able to enjoy all they believe heaven to
consist of.
One of the biggest questions left unanswered for most is the description of Heaven and if
it truly exists. Many find peace and comfort in their heart and soul when the belief of such a
place of wonder is the final destination of a loved one. Dani and Lizzy wrote a beautiful song for
tribute and way to release bottled up emotions one feels after a death. The audience can relate to
the song due to the questions being asked as most have wonders of such a place like heaven. The
song can pull one’s heartstrings when pondering about their loved one and if that person in
heaven could talk. The joy one may experience if only for a day, their loved one could reassure
their families of such joyful experiences the lyrics seem to question.
