Literacy Center Justification
These materials and activities are appropriate for this age range of students because they are
still learning and practicing the beginning stages of phonics and phonemic awareness. These materials
will be used to help promote students awareness of letters and print as well as help them to practice
those important foundation skills. All of these materials can be used in any type of classroom with any
kind of diverse student needs. There are two different types of retelling strategies being used with the
picture cards and with the finger puppets. And multiple ways for students to practice their automaticity
with writing and identifying alphabet letters.
These activities and materials are appropriate for this age range of students because they help
promote students curiosity as well as giving them tools to help them remember and practice their
counting skills. The green house is to keep a classroom garden and different plants for students to
visually see their science TEKS played out. The glass insects promote discovery based learning and move
them forward in their animal thinking. The math magnet numbers and magnetic number line promote
practice automaticity and diligence when learning numbers and helping them prep for the coming
grades.
These materials are appropriate for this age range of students in art because they help promote
artistry and creativity as well as play into the motor skills center. The musical instruments also help
students tap into their creativity as well giving students an outlet for their emotions and stories to play
out in. These can be used solely in the art and music center or in whole group instruction as well. The
easel can easily be moved into dramatic play if needed!
Dramatic Center Justification
These activities and materials are appropriate for this age range of students because it activates
students relationship with others and helps to give students an opportunity to play and talk together as
a class and in groups during the day. The play food is meant to be used in the play kitchen area, I
specifically chose this food because it is Velcro and students can “cut” up the food if they would like.
Along with play mail box and cash register. The Teepee is a fun place for students to make their own and
play in it however they would like, it can also be doubled as a reading spot. I added stuffed animals to
this list of materials because young students often feel a connection with stuffed animals and I just
thought it would be a nice addition into the dramatic play center.
These materials activities are appropriate for this age range of students because I know this is a
key factor in young students development and is often looked past in regular classrooms. I chose to
include Lego’s because students love to play with them and they can have the creativity to build
whatever they would like or to build something according to the instructions included in the pack.
Something I made sure to include were different types of beads, something as simple as students
making a pattern with them and then transferring it to a string can be very difficult and frustrating,
practicing this skill will help them improve their fine motor skills. The plastic cookie cutter are to be used
with playdough or with tracing and cutting it out. The Bop It! shows students not only fine motor skills
but also how to follow directions and to follow a pattern! Twister is a gross motor skills activity/game
where students are required to follow the directions of the spinner and to use their full body.
