Justification

Henniger, suggests having not only a dramatic play center, but also a housekeeping center as well. I have
included some of the recommendations for these centers. The cleaning set, sink, stove, and fridge are all
a vital part of the house keeping center. It has young children engaging in housekeeping skills. This
allows for more background knowledge and active engagement in play as they learn. The dramatic play
center focuses on imaginative play by including costumes to dress up into, baby dolls, clothes, mirrors,
and even a coat rack. I added the closet to teach them the importance of putting the clothes away and
allowing them to work on hand eye coordination while hanging up clothes. It makes a simple chore a
much more enjoyable and fun learning environment. The baby dolls added to the center would be of
varying ethnicities to encourage all students in the class to play.

Children" suggests sponges to be used in painting, the sponges allow for exploration and textile fun. The
microphone allows students to explore their musical interests and imagination. The band in the box
provides instruments that are recommend by Henniger in "Teaching Young Children". The instruments
allow for hand eye coordination, imagination play, and encourages musical growth.

Cycle Figurines

Total $121.29

Justification

The classroom magnet set allows for exploration into the use of magnets and their properties, they are
also big enough for children in kindergarten to use without hurting themselves. The Primary color mixing
set is a fun way for children to expand their knowledge of colors and how they function together to
make new colors along with being a fun and interactive way to explore the world around them. The life
cycle poster allows the children to match up the life cycles kits to the individual cycles they can see. It
gives them a fun, hands-on approach to a topic they might otherwise miss or not understand if just
talked about in a normal classroom. The anatomy play set is age appropriate with magnets that allow
children to see how the different skeletal, muscular, and nervous system plays a part of their bodies, it
also gives them background knowledge. The items picked out for math and science will allow children to
explore in a hands-on way, that also allows them to engage in play at the same time.

all students in the classroom. The bean bag chairs add a comfortable place for children to unwind and
settle down in the literacy center along. The center can also be used as a quite place for students who

Coliseum Block 1 Hatch $24.30

Set

Sensory Block 1 Hatch $27.00

Puzzle

Total $157.50

Justification

The Mega Block set can be used as an open-ended toy. They are a lot like Legos in that they stack but
this way they can also be used as self-correcting toys by forcing the child to assemble them on a wall to
which they must match up the correct holes. The pyramid people are self-correcting toys because there
is only one way to put them together. The Pick a Peg toy could be used as a cooperative game since the
children need to match the pegs to the correct size and shape. This activity can also be used to teach
differences in colors and sizes. Children can play together or separate with many of these games. The
middle east and coliseum block set allows children to build and create new and exciting towns and
buildings. The sensory blocks would also be good for children with special needs since they provide an
extra level of stimulation. The motor skills center combines Henniger's manipulative and block centers
into one.
