One Week
Complete one journal forms for the week. The more you write, the better information I have in
issuing your grade. Please put thought and effort into completing this form.

What activities did you do with the children that you enjoyed most?
Each week, children learn new alphabet letter. The teacher plans fun activity. When I was there,
they were on alphabet X. Children learn to write X and knows what letter start and end with X.
Read books about letter X and we color and draw. There was one activity that the children enjoy
most and so do I. It was an X-ray activity. The teacher orders the X-ray sheet online and the X-
ray was real. The children get to see a real X-ray. The sheets were divided into 18 part and the
children hade to spread it out on the floor and matched it.

What was your least favorite?

My least favorite was dealing with the misbehavior’s kids. I followed the teacher discipline but it
didn’t work. I wasn’t sure why it wasn’t working but maybe because the kids don’t understand
English.

What would you change with the activity to make it more enjoyable/educational?
The activities we did with books was a bit boring for the kids because they wouldn’t sit quietly
or still. I want the teacher to read the book with excitement and changing voice maybe. I notice a
huge difference when I read the book. I chose a book I know very well and I read it loud and
clear. I also made sound affect, change my voice and I was happy about it.

What types of discipline did you witness? (good and bad)

The discipline they use was redirect and timeout. When a child was misbehaving they redirect
but if they still didn’t listen the teacher give them a timeout. Which didn’t really work because
the kids won’t listen at all or they do but then do it again.

What did you learn this week?

I learn that kids will go off topic a lot and how to stay on topic or get back on topic. If one kid
does something like clapping his or her hand, other kids want copy it. Kids will always ask
questions and you got to have an answer, if not they will keep asking you.
Did you feel welcome and comfortable at your OJT site? Why or why not?
I did feel welcome because all the teachers welcome me and make sure if I needed anything they
will help me. I didn’t know anyone there so it was awkward to come up with conversation but I
learn to be brave.
