The frequency of insulin glargine (Lantus) in the recommendation

Insulin glargine is a once-daily basal insulin analog with a smooth 24-h time-action profile that
provides effective glycemic control . This study shows the frequency of Lantus insulin in the
recommendation.

The data has been retrieved from an open circuit pharmacy from December .

Thus from a number of 523 prescriptions , 229 were for the treatment of diabetes and of these
229 a total of 125 contained insulin glargine in two forms (Lantus 100 units/ml solution for
injection in a cartridge and Lantus SoloStar in pen form ).

The age range of the persons in treatment with insulin glargine was between 45-76 years old
with an increased frequency among men.

This big number of prescriptions with insulin glargine I explained it through clinical trials that
showed a series of advantages like: insulin glargine given once daily reduces the risk of
hypoglycemia compared with NPH insulin, it can be injected anytime of the day, the effect lasts
up to 24 h, it is also recommended for children over 2 years old with diabetes .

In conclusion diabetes mellitus is chronic disease that can be kept under control with an
association of insulin with oral drugs and a good life regime.
