THW Obligate STD Screening And Counseling For The Pre-Marriage Couple

Good morning ladies and gentleman. We are from negative team. My name is … and
we have a good motion today, that is “ This House Would Obligate STD Screening And
Counseling For The Pre-Marriage Couple”

We the affirmative team believe that this statement is TRUE.

More money as a caution for the pre-marriage but let’s we think for couple the long
impact, a got sure after get marriage and got save after get baby. After the result is finish,
the doctor accompanied counselor will tell the result to the couple, is that good or bad to they
continued their marriage plan. If the result is positive and the couple will be continued for
marriage plan. We can give her solution, the solution is if the want to making love, the can
use condom and when the couple want need a baby they can use in vitro fertilization.

Here we come to our argument. The point is :

1. Decrease the sexual infection disease occur in Indonesia.

2. The risk of hormonal disease can also be anticipated through the screening

Point : Decrease the sexual infection disease occur in Indonesia.

Like HIV, STD can be decrease the sexual infection disease. Because the presence of
this test can reduce the number of people who experience sexual disease. The example in
Malaysia , since in 2009 in Malaysia they have implemented HIV testing pre-marriage and
managed to reduce the number of HIV sufferers by 50% from 6.756 cases in 2003 to 3.452
cases in 2011. Based on the evidence above, My team strongly agree with this motion.

Point : The risk of hormonal disease can also be anticipated through the screening

Thank you for the time that you give to me, my name is … I’m as the second speaker
of the affirmative team. Now I’ll give my argument after my rebuttal later. Before you said
the existence of stigma and discrimination. But actually, after the result is finish, the doctor
accompanied counselor will tell the result to the couple, is that good or bad to they continued
their marriage plan. If the result is positive and the couple will be continued for marriage
plan. We can give her solution, the solution is if the want to making love, the can use condom
and when the couple want need a baby they can use in vitro fertilization. And to face the
discrimination that may occur in the environment around the sufferer, the family has a very
big role to always provide the motivation and full support to the sufferer.

Pre-marriage screening is important to do in order to know the risks of the couple take, and
also for their children in the future. A lot of things can be anticipated by conducting the screening
such as the risks of disease transmission, infertility, mother and child death during childbirth and
baby defects. The risks of hormonal disease can also be anticipated through the screening.
Hormonal disease such as diabetes mellitus, give risks of miscarriage and baby defects. With the
screening, the mother can anticipate them by living a healthy life to control her blood sugar. We
can follow Malaysia that have implemented an HIV test pre-marriage since the year 2019 and can
decrease HIV sufferers in the amount of 50% from 6,756 cases in 2003 to 3,452 cases in the year
2011.

Point: -

Thank you for the time that you give to me, my name is … I’m as the third speaker of
the affirmative team. Now I’llgive my rebuttal about what did you said before and also give
you more fact to make our team stay strong. Indonesia still in the emergency situation with
HIV cases. Based on data the HIV disease getting increase a long with the developing of
Indonesia. Based on the 2nd speaker said before there are coercion, psychological and mental
stress. But if STD screening does not legalize more and more couples who will be infected
with HIV and will produce HIV-infected babies.

My team still agrre with the motion because on our point to reduce sexually
transmitted diseases such as HIV, an infection diseases test is required for unmarried couples
to be able to prevent infectious diseases as soon as possible. We have many reason to legalize
STD screening&conseling for pre-marriage couple. Based on argument before

1. STD can reduce the number of people who experience sexual diseases

2. To get good babies

3. There is no doubt in sexual relations

Because of that, we should support and legalized the STD screening & conseling for
pre-marriage couples. So, I strongly belive that our team argument still strong and can
applied in this country.
REPLAY SPEECH

Okay, thank you for the time that you give to me, I’m … as a reply speech from the
affirmative tem will give our conclusion of our argument before.

We the negative team believe that this statement is NOT true.

We also have 3 point to make our team stay strong to against STD Screening and Counseling
For The Pre-Marriage Couple in Indonesia.

1. The existence of stigma and discrimination

2. There are coercion, psychological and mental stress
3. There is an increase in HIV patients with HIV testing

Point: The existence of stigma and discrimination

For the first at all, I will give you my rebuttal and also argument about what did you
said before. Okay, my rebuttal is if the affirmative team said that the point is decrease the
sexual infection disease, can the team provide evidence and the fact that STD Screening and
Counseling can decrease the sexual infection disease? And also the first speaker affirmative
team said this test will cost a lot of money and time then why do we have to do this test? So
now I will deliver my argument, the first point is the existence of stigma and discrimination.
If this test is held whether all receive? This test is considered negative because it will
encourage some people’s perception. If they had done the test and the result (+) did they have
to cancel the wedding that had been prepared in advance? Can you turn two couples who love
each other? What about his family and about the losses? Then there will be a negative stigma
for couples who test because of suspicion regarding the illness, in addition there will be
discrimination for people who results (+) So that we still not agree with this motion because
there are more harm than profit.

Point: There are coercion, psychological and mental stress

Thank you for the time you gave me, my name is ... I am the second speaker from the
team's negative team. Now I will give my argument after my rebuttal later. Previously you
said they could use in vitro fertilization. All you need to know is that in vitro fertilization is
very expensive. One thing you need to know about the total program of in vitro fertilization
is that 2/3 of it is used for stimulation drugs that are still imported. While 1/3 to 1/2 is used
for culture media, laboratories, examinations, ultrasound, embryo transfer, and others. For
example, if the IVF program that is followed requires a fee of IDR 70 million, then the IDR
50 million will be used for stimulation drugs. So if the costs incurred to carry out in vitro
fertilization are already very expensive and large whether it will guarantee the results (-) hiv,
it could be precisely the results (+) hiv which according to what I read from a site is unlikely
to get results (-) hiv if the mother is not exposed to HIV, if the mother is affected by the
possibility of a result (+) HIV will be obtained and the opportunity to get pregnant is very
small with a 5-24% insemination program, 47% fertilization and once the possibility of
having a baby from the couple because it will be in vain if it does not match the results to be
obtained.

There are also points that I want to convey:

1. There are coercion, psychological and mental stress.

Where the test is like a coercion, where if it is legalized the test becomes a mandatory
pre-marital test that imposes the couple who will marry because to do so the costs
incurred are very large and expensive in contrast to HIV tests that have been free by the
government and not all people are able to do this where the test is very burdensome to
the couple. If it has been tested and the results are stated positively does he have to
cancel the wedding? And have the heart to separate 2 people who really love each other?
How are the two partners mental? Will the family and environment accept them after
knowing this? Of course it will have a great impact if the test is required.

2. There is an increase in HIV patients with HIV testing

According to sources that I got, for example, the Malaysian state government is very
active in reducing HIV, but instead there has been an increase due to such tests as in
2011 (21,031), 2012 (21,511), 2013 (29,037). (Spritia.or.id)
