Philosophy of Education

My philosophy is based around Progressivism, which is a student-centered philosophy. I

believe that teaching should be centered around the student’s needs and experiences. School is to

prepare students for their future and be successful in the world.

In my class I would incorporate videos, powerpoints, discussions, groups, hands on learning,

and if possible field trips. I believe that by having students work together in groups will help the

student with their social skills and help improve their knowledge on the subject. In groups

students can share what they learned from the lesson with each other and can explain to students

that did not understand in ways I may have not thought of.

My classroom will have my student’s work proudly displayed on the wall. My posters will

have people of multiple races on them. I will also try to use examples and references from

different cultures in my teaching. I believe every student should feel welcomed in my class and

feel like they belong.

In grading I will use written tests, but I will also like to use daily work, participation, and

presentations in my grading. I believe that students need more than just written tests because

some students might know the subject, but do not do well with written tests. By using daily

work, participation, and presentations in grading it will help me evaluate how much a student

really knows.

In my philosophy of education I believe that every student deserves the opportunity to learn in

different ways. By examining each students learning style, I can help each student achieve

success. I want everyone of my future students to be successful in life.
