KERALA GRAMIN BANK – FAST UNTO DEATH BY TWO LEADERS RAJATHA MOL AND
PRAKASAN – AGITATION ON DEMAND OF REGULARIZATION OF TEMPORARY
WORKERS.

We like to draw your kind attention to the following facts –

1. Kerala Gramin Bank, like many other RRBs, has engaged good number of workers
on Casual / Temporary Basis for quite long time. Most of these workers have been
on the job of the Kerala Gramin Bank for a period more than one year, and have
worked more than 240 days in a calendar year. Many have served for much longer
years and all of them are entitled to be regularized in the vacant posts against
which they have been engaged, under the provisions of ID Act, 1947.
2. The fact remains that the Bank has been adopting bad labor practice by denying
the benefits of regularization to all such workers ignoring the law of the land.
3. The matter has been raised by our units repeatedly during last several years, and
agitation programmes have been adopted / observed to press for settlement of the
long pending issue.
4. The current phase of agitation started with Dharna before HO from 01.11.2018 to
03.11.2018, participated by about 600 members of our units in Kerala Gramin
Bank, and now the 2nd phase has started with indefinite fast (fast unto death) by
two representatives of the Unions, and the next phase will be Indefinite Strike on
and from 17.12.2018, as already intimated to the Bank management beforehand.
5. It is surprising that the Management has not yet acted in right direction to settle
the dispute amicably, rather they have exhibited total apathy towards the very
burning issue, thus putting the lives of agitating (Indefinite Fast) leaders to a

1
grave danger of life, and also inviting serious industrial unrest in the Bank, and
naturally the unrest may not be confined to Kerala Gramin Bank alone, if some
untoward and fatal consequence is resulted due to such adamant attitude of the
Management.

Under this situation, may we request your kind self to intervene into the matter with
due seriousness and without any further loss of time, so that the entire matter can be
resolved that may save the lives of agitating (with fast unto death) leaders on one hand,
and to restore normalcy in the bank, on the other on regularization of Temporary
workers as per law of the land.

Expecting your earliest intervention and with regards,

Yours faithfully

(S Venkateswar Reddy)
