Research Paper

Introduction

The aim of this research was to make a practical work which is presented in Kanepi
Gymnasium. The practical research was carried out in form 8 from October to May 2019.

The present summary consists of the following parts: Introduction, History, Procedure, Result,
Conclusion. It describes all the research and practical work done.

My theme of creative work is “Kanepi Gymnasium logo as a sculpture”. I decided to choose

this theme because I like it and that's what I like to do. And it’s not that easy at all. The creative
work is dedicated to the 215th anniversary of Kanepi Gymnasium.

History

August Ludwig Weizenberg was the creator of Estonian national sculpture. Was born in a
family farm in Kanepi municipality, Võru County. At age 25, Weizenberg decided to move to
Germany to learn physics and techniques. In 1873, Weizenberg traveled to Vienna World Expo.
From there, however, he did not get the orders, and that same year he moved to Rome, where
he stayed for 17 years. In 1887, Weizenberg organized an exhibition of his creation in Tartu,
where Governor Shahhovsky bought "Kreutzwald's Portrait" and gave it to the Estonian Writers
Society. Although the sculptor lived in Estonia for a relatively short time, his work was well
known and appreciated in his homeland. For the first time, Weizenberg presented his sculpture
exhibition in Tallinn in 1878. (Vikipeedia, kuupäev puudub, sub August Weizenberg)

Procedure

First I talked with teacher and then I had to take some pictures of the sculpture. When it was
captured, we began to plan and gather as much information as possible to get the most out of it.
I got big cardboard plates from the teacher, where I started to draw the sculpture shape and then
cut it out to start building the frame. At the time of planning, I tried to get in touch with Steven
Hallap to find out how Weizenberg's shape became the logo of our school. When I got the frame
ready it was necessary to cover it with tape. When I was covering the frame with tape it was
necessary to start covering it with glue and newspaper. When the sculpture had become harder,
I started to add details to get a better result. When I was sure the details are all in place I had to
paint it and grind it several times to finish my practical work.

Result

I really like the end of my sculpture and I am really happy to do something with my own hands
and that I could do something I like. I think it was better than I originally expected.
Conclusion
To conclude, I can say so much that I learned to do much more cooperation and I learned to
express myself more. I learned what you can do with newspaper glue and cardboard. I also
learned how much you can actually recycle things and save on nature.
