CHIPOTLE FOR CHARITY

CLC MARCH MADNESS 2019

Collegiate Leadership Competition (CLC) and Chipotle Mexican Grill are

partnering to host the second annual March Madness competition: Chipotle for
Charity.

WHAT IS CLC’S MARCH MADNESS?

This challenge is an interactive social media competition that is open to all

registered CLC teams. All interested groups are encouraged to participate, meet
other teams on social, and have fun while impacting the community! Here is how
March Madness works:
CLC provides instruction to the challenge activity (you are reading the
instructions now, good work!). For those of you that participated last year,
this year’s challenge will be different because it is just one large activity,
rather than several smaller challenges.

Participating teams complete the required activity and submit

video/picture proof via social media. More specific submission info can
be found below.

Three winning teams will be announced at the end of March when the
competition is over. Participating in CLC March Madness is not required.
However, it is an excellent way to practice and strengthen your
leadership skills while consistently working towards one major goal.
We guarantee that you will have to navigate STRESSORS, INFLUENCE others to
join the cause, and work on building a cohesive TEAM atmosphere while doing
so. As interpersonal issues arise, the team will experience CONFLICT and have to
CONFRONT one another. Together, the team will work through conceptual
blocks and creatively problem SOLVE in an effort to achieve the task. Along the
way, the leader and FOLLOWERs will use certain STYLES that help and/or
hinder progress. Throughout, all involved will face ETHICAL dilemmas that must
be addressed (e.g., passing out flyers in front of the Chipotle store during the
fundraiser - what would society say?).

Check out the rules and guidelines below for a full breakdown on how to
participate!

GOAL
Use your leadership skills to raise the most amount of money for the charity of
your choice! Teams will raise money through a Chipotle Fundraiser. All groups
participating will be directly competing against other CLC teams. The team that
raises the largest sum of money (verified by Chipotle) will be announced as this
year’s CLC March Madness winner.

March Madness scores do not in any way impact CLC Spring competition
scores.

WHAT IS A CHIPOTLE FUNDRAISER?

Each Chipotle restaurant is committed to supporting local groups like
neighboring schools, youth sports teams and non-profit organizations. One way
they do this is by hosting fundraisers at their restaurants.

If your team decides to participate, you will need to follow Chipotle’s guidelines
for starting a fundraiser, which are linked below. In short, you and your team will
submit an application and receive a timeslot for the fundraiser at the Chipotle
store of your team's choice. You will do your best to promote the event and get
as many people as possible to the desired store during the set time of your
event. Chipotle will donate 33% of all proceeds back to the charity of your team’s
choice.
According to Chipotle’s rules, in order for your purchase to count towards your
fundraiser, your supporters must either:

Verbally tell the cashier of their participation

Show a physical fundraiser flyer

Show a digital flyer on a smartphone or other mobile device.

In order to receive the 33% back, Chipotle requires your team to bring a minimum
of $300 in total sales. On average, this is about 35-40 people.

JUDGING
Three awards will be announced: March Madness Champion, Most Creative
Attempt, and Exceptional Effort. Chipotle will be offering mystery prizes to our
winners! Each award will be based on the following criteria:

1. March Madness Champion: the team that successfully raises the most amount
of money throughout the Chipotle fundraiser. Funds raised in any other way will
not count towards any team’s total. In order for a team's overall submission to
count, all social media submissions must be completed on time.

2. Most Creative Attempt: the team that communicates and implements the
most creative strategies for accomplishing the challenge determined by CLC
staff. In order for a team's overall submission to count, all social media
submissions must be completed on time.

3. Exceptional Effort: the team that puts forth an incredible attempt for reasons
determined by CLC staff. In order for a team's overall submission to count, all
social media submissions must be completed on time.

WHAT IF MY SCHOOL IS NOT NEAR A CHIPOTLE?

If you are not located near a Chipotle, you can still participate! Try running a
Chipotle fundraiser virtually. Can you accomplish the task without ever visiting
the store? It can be done!

PICKING A NON- PROFIT

A nonprofit organization’s goals are philanthropic and aim to improve the quality
of life for the community and beyond. Below, you’ll find examples of
organizations that generally fall under a charitable definition:
Educational organizations (e.g., Collegiate Leadership Competition)
Hospitals and medical research organizations (e.g., Cleveland Clinic)
Charities (e.g., World Food Program)
Non- eligible parties according to Chipotle guidelines:
Individuals (scholarships, stipends, fellowships, personal assistance); For-profit
ventures; Religious groups for religious purposes; Capital campaigns,
endowment funds or memorials; Lobbying, political or fraternal activities;

For a list of suggestions, take a look at these charities and feel free search
