This is actually a real project that I’ve been working on for about 3 years now. It

may not be the best of projects or even a project that someone might want to be proud

of, but I certainly am. I wanted to test out the YouTube algorithm on how videos are

shown to you due to recommendations. I chose a sort of easy channel topic for this,

music.

To sum everything up and spoil everything, I’ve been running this channel on and

off for about 3+ years now. The channel has only about 150+ videos and almost 3

thousand subscribers. Not your typical success story, I know, but this entire thing was

more of a test than me trying to become famous on YouTube or something of that

nature. I started uploading songs that not too many people knew of, uploading artists

that were sort of underrated or not known to the larger audience.

Within the first year I only gained about 400 subscribers, lame. Within this time

frame however, and just having only uploaded about 35-40 videos that year, I had one

song that did extremely well. I uploaded a song that garnered about 200 thousand views

within the first 2 months of uploading. From this video alone, I learned that I only gained

about 200 subscribers off of it. I won’t really go into what exactly I’m currently testing or

looking for because that’s still my secret to try and find out.

Other than all of that, I do actually feel really proud that all by myself I was able to

achieve over 1 million video views and almost 3 thousand subscribers. Complete and

full disclosure to all of this, I did actually have written permission from each of the artists

on my channel saying it was alright that I uploaded their song. I’m very proud of myself
for being able to talk to artists, some who were very popular and some who weren’t, all

by myself and gain permission from them for my test.

I only upload songs now periodically to try and see how things are working with

my theories. Some of my theories do hold true and some do not. I do not do this for the

money that has been made off of the channel, which by the way has been a grand total

of about $700 in ad revenue. I hide myself under the guise of a “promotion channel”

when in reality, I’m more of a testing channel.
