SPEECH TEXT

The Best Summer Ever

Sherri Henderson, Speaker

Hello everyone, I am Sherri Henderson the executive

director of the Boys and Girls Club in Alamance county. I am

speaking on behalf of this organization and explaining who we are

and our mission. We are affiliated with The Salvation Army of

Alamance County and our mission is to provide a safe, happy, and

fun environment for the children of Alamance County. We are

approaching summer and we are excited for our upcoming

summer camp. We have many leaders and counselors that are

excited to make kids summers epic. I would like to share our 3

goals for this upcoming summer, one is providing a positive

environment for these kids. The second is providing mentorship,

and the third is combating bullying.

I would first like to discuss the environment of this

summer camp. We want your kids to have the best summer ever,

and be around other kids, adults, and mentors that bring them up.

We think the key to building a person with good character starts

when they are younger. We want to encourage the next

generation to be kind, and sympathetic. The Boys and Girls Club

environment will do just that. Not only do we try to promote

kindness but we do this by having fun activities, including trips to

mini golf, the movies, roller skating and many more. We want

your kid to feel as if every day is the best day ever. Last summer,

one of our 10-year-old campers, Emily, described her trip to see

Incredibles Two as one of her favorite memories of the whole

summer. She walked in to the theater with the rest of her friends

from the Boys and Girls Club, happy, giggly, and excited to see the

best movie ever! These are the moments we want to provide your

kids, any everyday exciting experience.

Secondly, I would like to explain the mentorship program

for the Boys and Girls club summer camp. We hire volunteers

from various ages, ranging from high school, to college and adults.

We aspire for children to feel inspired by strong leadership. We

want your children to be around role models that drive your kids

to strive to do the right thing. Every one of our counselors leads

by example in the best way. We train with team building

exercises, problem-solving techniques, and ways to prepare in

case of a crisis. Our mentors our top-notch and truly want your

children to be their best selves this summer. We ensure families

that we go through a rigorous hiring process to make sure their

children are in the best care.

Lastly, our camp strives to combat bullying. We have a

strict, no tolerance policy for bullying. We want your kids to be in

safe, and kind environment. We will have different activities that

teach your children about the harmful effects of bullying. Some of

my personal favorite ones are going around a big circle and

tell one another their favorite part of their peer. This is a way for

kids to feel appreciated and loved by those around them. We

promise you all that anti-bullying will be discussed during

summer camp, and it will be a very positive environment.

In conclusion, the Boys and Girls Club summer camp with

provide a positive environment, strong mentorship, and will

strive to combat bullying. We will promise to provide an epic

summer for your kids!
