Preventing urinary tract infection

How can I help reduce my risk of acquiring a urinary tract infection?

1. Drink plenty of fluids, water is best, enough to pass clear dilute urine 4 to 6 times per
day (about 8 glasses).
2.Cranberry juice and taking of vitamin C increase the acid in your urine and help inhibit
bacteria from growing.
3.Go to the bathroom when you have the urge or; don’t hold your urine for to long .
4. After a bowel movement both women should use toilet paper to wipe the anal area clean.
Wiping the anal area from front to back will help to ensure that germs from a bowel
movement are not wiped forward from the anal area to the urethra.
5. After urinating, a woman should wipe the urethra with toilet paper to make sure it is clean
and dry.
6. Cleanse your genital area daily but not too frequently or vigorously. Too much scrubbing
and cleaning may slightly damage your genital skin. Bacteria thrive better on damaged skin.
7.Avoid potential irritants such as perfumed bath oils and vaginal deodorants.
8. Wear cotton underwear and loose-fitting clothes so air can keep the area dry.
9. If you have diabetes, keep your blood sugar under control.
