Abstract
In order to determine the phenotypic characterstics of different local sheep
breeds of Balochistan we have searched in different places of balochistan and
brought collected the data of sheep breeds of balochistan the morphology of
these different sheep breeds define shows how much different the morphology is
and due to their morphological characterstics they also do vary in their wool ,
wool production milk , milk production ,meat production and others genetic
changes occurs too we have been in many places of Balochistan like WADH,
MASTUNG, SIBI, QUETTA,SOBATPUR, TURBET, AWARAN of Balochistan and in all
parts of Balochistan all the sheep breeds are quite different from one another
phenotypically and genetically.

Introduction
Pakistan is an agricultural country and more than 70% of population live in rural
area and their livelihood direct or indirect engagement on agriculture livestock
sector is a sub-sector of agriculture it is clear it is clear from fact about 30-35
million rural population is engaged in livestock raising house holding 2-3 cattle
buffalo 5-6 sheep and goat sheep sheep population in Pakistan were 25.5 millions
as there are major 4 sheep breeds of balochistan raising for meat, wool, milk,
production. Balochi sheeps is mainly raised for mutton and wool production ,
Harnai breed for wool production , Rakshani breed for wool and mutton
production twenty million heads of sheep and goats in balochistan constitute
more than one third of small ruminants population of Pakistan these are the
major livestock wealth of the provience that covers 34.7 millions hectares almost
44% of country land area as we have worked on different sheep breeds to find
out the differences of their body weight, body and wool colour, head size, nose
size, legs shape and size, colour, ear size and muzzles differences

History of sheep breeds

Livestock provide motive power for agriculture operations meat and milk
for human consumption and by products such as skin, wool, hairs, for local use
and contributes largely to export earnings as well. There are 24.7 millions sheep
and in balochistan 10.6 millions of sheeps the propotion of young and adult were
44% in balochistan Balochi, Bibrik, Harnai and rakshani are major breeds of sheep
harnai breed of sheep mainly raised for wool production shearing Is done by
professional shearers or by floack owners themselves twice a year sheep’s wool
plays an important roll in Pakistan’s economy and it is the basic input of warm
clothes and carpet industries generally these are four types of wool i.e fine,
medium , and long and course wool and Pakistan is producing course wool which
is best one in the world used in the carpet manufacturing other household
products are also indigenously manufactured from using sheep wool thread . The
white colored , clean wool fetches relatively higher price as compared to dirty and
pale colored one similarly mixed wool is also receving low price in future the
demand of livestock product is expected to increase at quite higher rates induced
by growth in population The sheep breed belongs to kindom animalia, Phylum
chordata, Order artiodyctyla, Family :Bovidae, Sub family :caprine , Genus ovis,
SPECIES O.aries and two types of teeths are found milk teeth 20 and permanent
teeth 32 no front teeth on the upper pallet can use to determine the age of the
sheep and there are 4 types of horns 1 Supracervical horn 2 Webbed horn 3
Homonymous horn 4 polyceterate horn and different types of wools are also
found fine wool medium wool long wool crosbred wool type fur types are found
As if we talk about harnai sheep breed The Harnai is a fat tail, mutton/wool type
breed. They are found in parts of Loralai, Quetta, Sibi and Zhob districts in
Baluchistan Province. They are medium size with a white body coat with a black
or tan spotted head and ears. The wool yield is 2.6 kg (medium; fiber diameter
33.4m). They have a compact body with a small fat tail, high fiber density.
The phenotypic characteristics of the Khurasani breed are black long hair coat,
turned back horns and fine second hair coat in winter. The breed is predominantly
black in color with a red face but some other color is also found occasionally
The population of the goat is hard to predict, because of the widely scattered
nature. It is estimated about 2.7 million. The trend is increasing. The male animals
are the major source of earning. The animal is smaller in size and cannot attain as
higher prices as Kohe-Suleimani goat. Moreover, it is good in milk production, and
milk is used for by-products like ghee and Kurth
Balochi sheep of balochistan Meat, wool Country: Pakistan, Iran Home tract:
Kalat division and suburb of Quetta down to Sibi (Pakistan). It is also found in
eastern Iran.Morphological characteristics Body: Medium sized Body coat: White
fleece Head: Pigmented Horns: The males are horned Nose: Roman type Muzzle:
Black, brown or spotted Tail: Fat tailed The Balochi sheep is a fat-tail breed, well
adapted to a wide range of harsh environmental conditions in the Eastern Iran
and Balochistan.

Conclusion
As we have been in different places of balochistan in search of phenotypically
characterstics of sheep breeds places including kalat, awaran , quetta, mastung ,
sobatpur, wadh, and many more and we observed different morphological
characterstics in every single city as there are major 4 sheep breeds in balochistan
as I have mentioned above and have seen all those too and by going through this
process people can easily identify the breeds before buying or before keeping
them at homes yards or in fields by knowing the morphological characters one
can easily diagnose the problems too related to that species and can learn more
because of economical point of view.
