Startup Brain Storming

Creating a startup is a journey filled

with challenges, excitement,
opportunities and competition. While
the journey has ups and downs the
entire team will learn many new
things, gain insights from completely
different prospective and evolve from
the mistakes.
Our goal as a Business Developer is to
find a vision for the entire team, which
enables every single person to focus
toward one mission. While we are trying hard to bring this vision, we are facing
various challenges and hard time in validation the idea. However, in this process
we gained many valuable knowledge and experience that will enable the Business
Development Team to grow faster and mature.
After many iterations of the idea we come up with the following plan:
1) Understand the passion of the team
2) Fix the direction of the goal and start building the base
3) Iterate, Iterate, Iterate the idea to bring value to the product
Here in this document, we need the help of every single person in the team to help
us in finalizing the goal of our very first product.
1) According to you, how do you define our company?
I would define it as a company that is able to leverage analytics and understanding
of wind turbine design & operation to provide actionable insights or solutions for
customers.
2) Personally, what are the areas of your interest that you would like to contribute?
Windfarm asset management and planning. Come up with site/client specific ways
to increase AEP during windfarm operation and take those learnings into future
windfarm planning phases.

3) According to you, in which are all the technologies that our team is expertise in?
I see a team which has understanding and skills in programming, analytics, wind
turbine design & operation and energy industry awareness.

4) If you had to define the goal of our first product, what it would be? Briefly
explain.
The goal of our first product – to enable customers to grow their wind energy asset
base.
The current market is taken up by large IPPs like Vattenfall and Orsted. There are
other players who would like to participate but they just cannot compete with
these giants who can afford to give really low bid prices during govt. auctions of
wind projects. So what happens to these smaller IPPs. They focus onshore perhaps.
I am not sure what service we can provide to them exactly. But I’ve seen some of
their problems. For example: They usually focus on multiple technologies and they
want to grow their wind assets but lack resources such as manpower and finance.
At some point, every IPP will want to get free from the service agreement with the
OEM and would want to do complete/partial in-house O&M.
In India, there are many small IPPs or individual asset owners. Many of them don’t
have wind energy as their main business. Aiding them get a better understanding
of this industry and their own asset would be the first step. In this regard, I propose
an app that can help them monitor and keep track of their earnings from their
assets. There’s some basic deductions on transmission losses and reactive power
that can be made based on the monthly invoice from the State Electricity Board
(SEB). Many don’t track these things. They are unaware or don’t have the time or
resources for the same. Some do track these and I’ve seen them spend time on it
through excel sheets.

5) In the product development of the above, what role/responsibility would you

like to take?
I would like to take the role of defining the kind of calculations and dashboards that
clients would need.

6) According to you, who could be willing to pay us for the above product? Why?
It could be sold to a large list of AD (accelerated depreciation) scheme
customers and small IPPs in India. A good starting point would be to target
all the members of the Windmill Owners Welfare Association. Some basic
features such as energy generation monitoring can be available for free but
tracking line losses, reactive power losses, revenue, etc can be a paid service
on monthly/annual subscription basis.

7) Personally, how many hours/week can you dedicate into this product?

3-4 hrs
