Hustle And Grind

As we bid adieu to 2018 and welcome a brand new year 2019 (even though it is just a flip of the
calendar page from current month to next month), it is a sheer excitement to welcome the new year
/ month / day with the hope of better tomorrows in 2019 and beyond.

Well, as we start this journey of shaping up for better tomorrows, having a clear purpose is the first
step. The next step is to create an agenda to be in line with the purpose. We often don’t revisit and
evaluate the agenda and hence we tend to slow down or drift as interferences come along the way.

Interferences, in other words, hindrances are always part and parcel of life.

Following quotes help me whenever interferences come my way which I am happy to share :

First, “Ups and Downs in life are very important to keep us going, because a straight
line even in an E.C.G. means we are not alive.” – Ratan Tata

We always complain or blame some external factors for our failures and misery. But the reality is none
of them affect our dreams unless you give them the power to control you.

We learn more from the failures than from the success stories. Success stories inspire us and whisper
in our ears to emulate the same for spreading the awesomeness in the world.

Second, “Take the stones people throw at you and use them to build a monument.” –
Ratan Tata

What I learnt from this is: continue playing the game without heckling from the stands.

Yesterday, we had a meet of successful trainers who got together to learn new techniques with
regards to Goal Setting and Actions. We penned down our goals – both short term and long-term
goals. We were in a classroom set up near Versova beach in Mumbai, the ambience was just perfect
to sit back and reflect, evaluate 2018.
Having a purpose is good, but realising WHY we have that purpose is most important for clarity as that
only can drive us for working towards that purpose. Have we ever thought Why We Do What We Do
and How Exactly Do We Do It ?

Let’s dive in...

I am sharing a snippet of the learnings of yesterday. The concept we discussed was - So “FACETHE
SEA” which is an acronym to the GOAL setting and Actions process. This model evolved based on the
work and life experiences.

The expansion for the acronym is as under : (Fig. 1.0 explains the model)

F is Future (which is sensory specific, e.g. seeing is believing)

A is Actions
C is Capabilities (e.g. making learn, unlearn, relearn continuously as a ritual)
E is Emotions
T is Tasks
H is Hindrances (e.g. we have seen instances that people with high potential also sometimes do not
perform as expected because of the hindrances or interferences that come their way or they know
about)

E is Effective change
S is Summary
E is Evaluate (e.g. on weekly basis Analyse, Clean up, Track)
A is Assignment of tasks (commitment to oneself to get closer to the outcome)
Goals need to be measurable in such a way that tangible evidence can be presented along the way.
Hence Future should be sensory specific as mentioned above. It's fun to track your milestones! This
can be as simple as setting specific dates for your achievements.
