MRI BILATERAL ANKLE JOINTS (Plain)

Multiplanar multiecho high resolution sequences of bilateral ankle joints were performed on a 1.5
Tesla Philips Prodiva scanner.

Hx: Pain and walking difficulty.

FINDINGS:-

The Achilles tendon shows mildly increased bulk and significantly altered signal at the calcaneal insertion
(left > right) with focal fluid signal at the bony insertion. The calcaneum on the left side shows patchy
marrow edema ion this region with minimal fluid involving the precalcaneal bursa. The alignment of the
tendon is maintained.

Mild degeneration involving the calcaneocuboid articulation on the right side.

The tibiotalar and the subtalar articulations are unremarkable.

No obvious ligament injury around the ankle joints.

The flexor and extensor tendons are unremarkable.

Soft tissues and neurovascular bundles are preserved.

IMPRESSION:-

 The Achilles tendon shows mildly increased bulk and significantly altered signal at the calcaneal
insertion (left > right) with focal fluid signal at the bony insertion. The calcaneum on the left side
shows patchy marrow edema ion this region with minimal fluid involving the precalcaneal bursa.
The alignment of the tendon is maintained – Findings are highly suggestive of significant
insertional tendinopathy / enthesopathy of the Achilles tendon on both side (left >> right).

For clinical correlation and follow up.
