Who am I
• Peter Bessems
• Birth year was 1957
• Living in a small village in the south of the
Netherlands
• Started teaching youngsters in the age 12 -16
• Became a sailing /cardio fitness instructor to sport
students in the age 16 – 22 for 12 years.
• 20 years ago I started as an IT teacher and now I am
a certified Cybersecurity Specialist.
• I am using the Cisco Networking Academy
curriculum.
• In the IT you have continuously upgrade your
knowledge
• I now participate in de CyberOps course every week

• When I am not studying my hobbies are Making


Music
• Field Hockey trainer of several teams
• The rest of my time I spent with my lovely family.

Tips when you use recorded sessions
• Students need to watch videos at home

• Don't use class time to repeat what was in the video – but
use the time to reinforce what they watched.
• Many things can explained better in video: If a picture is worth a thousand
words, how much is a video worth?
• Don't just regurgitate the text (online curriculum) (death by PowerPoint) - Teach!
Explain! Make it make sense!
• Keep it active (draw, animate, point, …)
• Do a run through first so it sounds more natural (I didn't have time to this)
• Occasionally show the presenter - Remind the listener there is a trusted person
presenting
• Include animations and drawings – make it interactive
• Change it up – different techniques for what works best
• Add interviews with real world network engineers, experts, etc
• Don't just record the book or online curriculum – not just a book on tape
