SOCIALIZATION SKILL OF CHILDREN WITH MENTAL RETARDATION AT EXTRAORDINARY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL C (SDLB C) OF BANYUWANGI IN 2018

Mental retardation is an incomplete or stopped mental development which
is characterized by skill barriers during the developmental period, so it affects the level of intelligence, namely social skill. The development of children's socialization skills in mental retardation is strongly influenced by their social media, especially parenting style which is very influental in social development of children with mental retardation. This study aimed to determine the correlation between parenting style and the socialization skills of children with mental retardation at extraordinary elementary school c of (SDLB C) Banyuwangi 2018. The type of research used in this study is correlation study, which analye the correlation between two variables in a situation or group of subjects, the design of this study was cross sectional, where the researcher emphasizes the time of measurement or observation of independent and dependent variable data only once at the time. the measuring instrument used questionnaire and observation sheet. the number of population was 56 respondents and the sample taken was 56 respondents. The sampling technique used total sampling. the test used in this study is rank spearman. The results of univariate analysis showed that most of the parenting style in the enough categoryis was 36 respondents (68%), while for socialization skill of mental retardation in enough category was 28 children (50%). The results of bivariate analysis using Spearman rank test with SPSS 16 obtained ρ value = 0.015 with a significance level of 0.05 (ρ <a or ρ <n 0.05). Then Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected which means there was a significant correlation between parenting style and the socialization skill of children with mental retardation at extraordinary elementary school c (SDLB C) at 2018, and strength between the two variables inspected showed sufficient correlation ranged 0.324. Children with mental retardasion socialize well. good parenting style can affect socialization skill of children with mental retardation, and support from the school especially teachers can support the development of socialization skill on children with mental retardation.
