Final Draft

by:Lauren Klotzman and Ashley Vo

On May 1 at 7 p.m, Hebron High School will be hosting the 18th annual Mr.Hebron

pageant for a college scholarship of 500 dollars of their choice in the Hebron Auditorium where

tickets will be 5 dollars at the door. The 15 candidates will participate in an opening dance, a

formal wear portion, swimsuit wear portion, talent portion, and Q&A portion .

To keep the show going there is emcee’s to run the show. There are two emcee’s this

year Ireland Beverly and Karishma Cordero. They currently have been writing the script,

preparing for the introduction for each of the participants.

“So the order starts with the introduction of al 15 candidates,” Beverly said. “We also had

applications where they wrote down bits, so while we say their name we can say what is their

favorite color, disney movie. It justs to keep the show going so there is no awkward silence and

to also help the audience keep up with the show.”

The participants all have there own talents and some feel more confident in some

categories versus others. The categories are the intro dance number, swimsuit section, formal

wear section, and talents. The top five Mr.Hebron's will also have to do a free response question

to decide the winner.

“There's a formal wear section,” Phillips said. “I'm excited for that because I think I look

good in a suit. Definitely not looking forward to the talent because I'm really scared about that…

if I mess up its game over. I think I can walk in a circle, I guess not in a circle, I guess it's strait

and back, but I guess I can walk down a runway in a suit without any difficulty.

The judges will not be from Hebron but will be girls from other schools, so it’s fair for the

judging. The judges will be from The Colony High School, Southlake High School, likely Marcus

and other LISD schools.

“A lot of it is based on one it’s not very exciting and interesting to watch and ten is the

best or it’s maybe out of 100, I’m not 100 percent sure, but each rank is categorized like that.”

Pageant organizer, Keegan Smith said.

The opening of the show begins with a choreographed number with all 15 participants.

The seniors have been preparing this dance number over a couple of practices.

“I think the thing I'm most excited about is the dance number at the beginning,” Phillips

said. “Because I mean everyone always fun watching a bunch of people who think they're really

cool go up on stage and do a dance choreographed by the Silverwings. Which involves extreme

movement of the body which are not typically done by you know seventeen year old dudes. And

so I think it's going to be funny to make a fool of ourselves in front of everybody.”

The participants have been preparing for their talents. The talent portion is worth 40

percent of the total competition. Cole Phillips is one of the participants and he has switched up

his plans for what his talent is going to be.

“Well originally I was going to sing Country Roads Take Me Home by John Denver,” said

Cole Phillips. “ Because I feel like everyone knows that song and if you get the crowd singing

along with you, you got it in the bag. But that's out of my range and I didnt wanna sound like an

idiot trying to sing a song that I couldn't sing, so I switched it up and now I'm singing Everlong by

the Foo Fighters.”

To be qualified for Mr.Hebron it is not a hard process. There is not an election and all

you have to do is want it.

“Be a boy,” Phillips said. “Be a senior. Have a talent. Get some papers, and fill them out.”

The senior event brings joy to people, especially the seniors as it is another part of their

last high school experience. Senior staff members of pageant express how they feel about the

pageant and what will be their favorite moment.

“I think that it's cool to see all the guys dress up,” emcee Ireland Beverly said. “I’m just

looking forward to this experience, just as a senior too. Just being involved with something like

this, I’m really soaking everything now.”

This is a Student Council sponsored event. The money comes from Homecoming

tickets, Student Council dues, and other events hosted throughout the year. The students who

are hosting recommend this to all students and say it will be a fun night.

“This year is going to be really great, all the guys are really outgoing,”Keegan Smith said.

“It's going to fun to watch. You should definitely come if you are on the fence about coming. it’s

definitely the event you won’t want to miss and a lot of the scholarship money means a lot to the

kids, so it helps if you come out and support and the ticket sales helps the student council too.”
