ANTICIPATED ENVIRONMENT AND SOCIAL IMPACT AND MITIGATION

MEASURES

Environmental components that will be affected by the project and the factors leading to it are: -

Environmental Factors:

• Change in Landuse and drainage pattern

• Change in channel hydraulics, triggering erosion and siltation problem either At in-situ or elsewhere
along the course of the river
• Impact due to inadequate solid and liquid waste disposal arrangements
• Inadequate sanitation, health and safety facilities
• Impact on river water quality due to proposed amenities
• Impact on environmental aesthetics and cultural values
• Impact on natural habitat (if any)

Social Factors:

• Land availability/requirement;
• Loss of structures
• Loss of livelihood
• Impacts on common property resources etc.

Environmental impact can be understood in 2 stages namely

1. Construction stage.

Which considers

Metrology and climate, Quarries and crushers, Cultural and heritage site, Loss of structures, Generation of
dust, Sanitation and waste generation, Drainage channel, Loss of Vegetation and tree cutting, Impacts on
dolphin.

2. Operation stage.

Operation stage considers

 Environmental impact :-

It includes Metrology and climate, Physiography and drainage, River water quality, Solid waste
generation, Aquatic Ecology/River Dolphin.

 Risk Assessment and Safety measures: -

Calculation of carrying capacity on Ghats and promenade and Managing crowd in festive seasons is the
two major risks during operations phase and need to be mitigated.
CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The major conclusion we can draw are that development of gath does not require environmental
clearances hence many other wildlife clearances are also not required. Protecting the species of
dolphin from project hazard and poaching. To drive for cleanliness of Ghats by providing
appropriate waste disposal strategies and by providing public toilets.

The project as such not going have any severe impact on river Ganga as the project itself is
taking
necessary environmental care. However, still raw sewage disposal has been noticed at various
section of the river Ganga which requires serious attention from NGRBA otherwise the major
objective
of cleaning the Ganga under this scheme will not be able to be completed with the ghat
development
program alone.
