Backstory: When did you first learn of your doom?
"Before I hit puberty, my mom used to tell me, and others, that I was an albino. It was the perfect excuse now that I think about it. Anyway, once I turned 13 I started changing. I mean, besides what normally happens when you get to that age. Some of it happened all at once, but some of it happened over time. The night my fangs came in I was in unbearable pain for almost 3 hours. I started growing a lot more than normal, and with it came speed and strength that I didn't know how to control at the time. Most important was how I started unconciously acting to people around me. I could feel myself reaching out to grab at random people and would have to pull myself back. As I got close to people, I could smell them. Not as in like, sweat or body odor or anything like that, it was different. Now I know it was their blood I was smelling, but back then it freaked me out. I started closing myself off, cutting off contact with what friends I had, and just started minding my own business. It was around that time where the conversation with my mom happened. It took some time to come to terms with, and not long after I met my father for the first time. Before I had just thought I would have to live life as a hybrid, but it couldn't just be that simple. That conversation I had with him is when I learned of my true fate."
Where did you get your sanctuary?
"After I had that conversation with my mother, the one where I learned I was a hybrid, I said some... choice words and decided to run away. I packed a backpack and took a bus as far as I could. It was far enough to reach the outskirts, and I took off into the forest. Aimlessly I wandered, for hours. As the sun started to rise, I had to find cover. It was a chance discovery, but I found a rocky outcropping that guarded the entrance to a cave. It was thankfully uninhabited, and I went inside. Despite my heritage I can't see in the dark, so I didn't go deep. I ran out of food fairly quickly, so I sheepishly made my way back home. Still, I never forgot the location of that cave, and I would return to it often. I went deeper and deeper, and eventually found a suitably sized "room". Every visit I would bring more and more stuff, until eventually it was kind of like a second bedroom. Still, even though it's nice, if I had the choice to go back in time and stop myself, I would. I still regret what I said to my mother, and would take it all back if I could."
Why do you oppose your nemesis?
"Just put yourself in my shoes. I didn't have a choice in the matter of me being what I am. I'm surrounded by people everyday that can grow up and do whatever they want to do, whatever they set their mind to. That is just not an option for me. Being a hybrid limits me a lot more than it gives. Even beyond that though, that monster used my mother. Used her and left her. He deserves to be destroyed, for what he's done to me, my family, and hundreds of others."
Who, outside of the team, is crucial to defeating your nemesis?
"There's this guy I know named Abram. Abram is pretty old, around his 50's I think. He's hardcore though, and that's coming from me. I met him at the public library of all places. It was winter, and I went as early in the morning as it opened so I could get in and out quick before the sun got too high. We bumped into each other and he could just tell what I was. He confronted me about it, got real close and started asking a bunch of questions. It was one of the first times in my life I had truly felt scared. Obviously I got through that encounter ok, and he actually turned out to be a cool dude, if a little intense. He's from an older time though, the bronze age they call it. He tells me stories about that time, but when I look him up in the school library there's hardly anything on him. All I was able to find were a couple of old newspaper articles where he was interviewed after stopping a few minor crimes. Still, I have no reason not to trust him. The books he's given me speak for themselves. They're absolutely full of supernatural stuff, like werewolves, ghosts, and especially vampires. They're like huge research papers almost, and I wonder if some of them he even wrote himself. My costume is also something he used to use, I think. It wasn't said. He's helped me a lot in understanding what I am and how I came to be, and for that I'm grateful. I can sense that when the time comes, it will have been Abram who's helped me more than anyone."
Why does the team matter to you?
"I run with the team for a number of reasons. The biggest reason is because it just makes sense. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts right? I-- I mean, we can accomplish so much more as a group. Working together with them has taught me many things, which will no doubt help me when I finally fight my father. Plus, it feels... nice. I hate to admit it but, I'm lonely. It's by choice, but that doesn't make it any less. When I'm with the team, I feel like I belong, like I'm supposed to be there. I can just be normal and talk."
