(“Cotton Eyed Joe”) It’s August, 1990 in Nova Scotia, Canada. A young girl by the age of 16
named Jonas Berkhimer is washing the tables and scrubbing the floors at the Burger King that she
has works at for a few months. When she walks out of the Burger King she sees a young boy no
older than twelve with headphones, a black shirt, jeans, a red Nike hoodie, and a hat on walking
across the highway and she sees him get hit by an ambulance. The ambulance stops to try to help
the young boy but when they got him in the ambulance he is already knocked out and was losing
blood from his head from where he hit the concrete. They come up to Jonas and asks if she
knows who the little boy was and she says no the only time i see him was earlier that day. Jonas
sat there for a little bit when she hears a voice yelling Jonny. Then the lady saw the ambulance
and she walked up to jonas and asks her what happened. She said a little boy got hit by an
ambulance. She looks into the ambulance and sees the little boy and starts crying it is her son
Jonas stays there with the lady and talks with her she introduces herself to Jonas, her name is
Jackie.

Act 1, Scene 2
Later that day, her family is eating dinner, tacos and chips. (“It's Raining Tacos”)Her family then is
washing dishes and talking, because that's what they do after they eat. Jonas’s mother asked her
how her day was. And she said “I watched some kid get hit by a car, night.” and walks upstairs to
sleep, leaving her mom dumbfounded.

Act 1, Scene 3
It’s Tuesday morning, and Charlie is riding his bike to school. He sees a girl running in the same
direction and she stops to pick up a book she dropped. What Charlie didn’t see was when Jonas
knelt down to pick it up and he crashed right into her. (“Evil Woman”) She is now yelling at him for
not looking where he was going, and he started yelling back saying she shouldn't stop in the
middle of the street to pick up a book and should at least look around before she did. One of the
neighbors is listening to the fight and called the police. The police has arrived and is taking them
both to the police station for Disturbance of the Peace.

Act 1, Scene 4
Jonas and Charlie are sitting in the holding area pouting and giving each other the stink eye. The
officer introduces himself as Officer Duke and explains to them that no one wants to press charges
and they called the police because they were worried that the fight might become physical. He
says how he needs to know their names and phone numbers of their parents. Charlie tells him his
parents don't have anything to contact him with. So Officer Duke passes on to Jonas to see if she
can give him her parents numbers. She gives them both to them and asks how long they will stay
glancing at Charlie. “Only depends one when your guy’s parents get here.” After about an hour,
Jonas’s parents come to get her and she goes, leaving Charlie at the station. Duke waits with
Charlie trying to figure out how he can contact his parents, asking him where he lives, if they have
email, if he has any other relative in town or close but Charlie just ignores him. The older officer
said that he’s going to have to stay at the station if his parents or a legal guardian picks him up.
After a couple hours, the entrance door opens and Jonas and her parents come through, asking
the officer if they can take Charlie home since it’s 10pm by now. The Officer Duke agrees and
Charlie awkwardly thanks Jonas for inviting him and letting him stay the night.

Act 1, Scene 5
They arrive at Jonas’s house and Charlie is quiet and awkward. Jonas’s parents tell her to show
him around. After showing him where he’ll be sleeping her parents call them both down for dinner.
Jonas’s parents introduce each other as Jill and Matt Berkhimer. They then think it’s time for them
to start asking Charlie some questions about home and why his parents didn’t come to pick him up
from the police station. Charlie told them about what his home life was like and details that can be
spared for the time being. After an exhausted day, they head upstairs to bed and Mr. Berkhimer
gives Charlie some old pajamas that his nephew uses when he comes to visit. Charlie thanks him
and went to change in the bathroom. When he got out the Berkheimer cat, Ribbon, followed him
to the guest room and slept on his bed.

Act 1, Scene 6
(“L ollipop) Charlie awoke to a smell that he could only imagine in his dreams. He got dressed
and went downstairs to see what was happening. Mrs. Berkhimer was cooking breakfast and
Jonas was getting ready to leave, telling Charlie to “Hurry up, stupid we’re going to be late.”
Charlie rushed to get his book bag and ran outside and hopped on Jonas’s bike and they took off
to school. They arrived and Jonas told Charlie to act like they don’t know each other. Charlie
agreed and they went on with a normal day until out of the corner of her eye, Jonas sees Charlie
being picked on by a couple of Rick Ross’s friends. She goes to settle things and hears that the
boys are making fun of Charlie’s shoes. Saying they look like he got them from a dumpster that
firemen put burnt pieces of clothing in. Jonas steps in and threatens that, she’ll tell Rick what their
doing. The boys backed off and left when the bell rang. Charlie asks why she broke the
“Pretending To Not Know Each Other” rule. She tells him with a smirk that she doesn’t have to
know someone to stick up for them.

Act 1, Scene 7
Fast forward until the day before halloween and Jonas and Charlie are perfecting their costumes
while listing to disney songs. They get called by Rick and he asks them if they want to come to
their party even though its late notice. They agree and say yeah why not.

Act 1, Scene 8
They arrive at Rick’s house at around 7:30 to help get his house ready. Rick is surprised that
Charlie even went outside wearing a Mcdonalds Chicken Nugget costume. Jonas laughs at that
but goes to a straight face as soon as Charlie shoots her a quick glare. Jonas is dressed as an
angel and playfully brags about how she got a few compliments here and there from strangers
when walking to Rick’s house.

Act 1, Scene 9
(“Changes”) About an hour into the party, some kids start calling Rick up to the pool area to “talk”.
One is dressed as Rick and the other seemed to have stolen his Brendon Urie poster and taped it
to his shirt and face. “Rick” was pretending to make out with the poster, screaming about how he’s
so queer and gay and other *ahem* words. Rick calls them down and punches Steven Stevenson,
the guy dressed as Rick. Steven fumbles and falls on the ground. Brad Paul, the poster dude
came and tried to continue the fight by swinging at Rick. Everyone is watching in a circle. They
keep fighting until they hear sirens that most definitely mean trouble and something on their
criminal records. Rick pulls Jonas and Charlie away and they hop the fence of the backyard and
start running.

Act 1, Scene 10
Rick takes them both to what looks like an abandoned house and says that it’s an old cabin that
belongs to his family but no one has used it since the 70s. Right after he finishes his sentence, an
old and short gray haired man runs out screaming with a plate in his hand. Screaming, Charlie
hugs Jonas while she is picking up a stick to “protect” them from the real life shrek (without the
green skin) Rick comes up behind him and hits him with a board that was laying on the side of the
house. Once the old man is knocked out, star gazing, Rick screams at him about how his mom
and dad told him to quit being a creepy hermit out in the middle of the woods.

Act 1, Scene 11
They somehow managed to drag Ricks crazy, always drunk uncle into the house. It’s now night
time and they found some crusty sleeping bags and figured that it would have to do for tonight.
Rick makes what he would consider a bold move and comes out to Charlie and Jonas. “We kinda
figured after seeing that poster.” Charlie mentions. “Oh yeah, that’d do it” “shut up so i can
pretend this is a dreams morons.” Jonas shuts the boys up real quick.
