PANS SANS

preganglionic Location Thoracolumbar segments(T1-L2)

Somas:  1- Brain stem (nuclei) Thoracics planchnics(T5-T12)
 2- Later horn of S2-S4 Lumbar splanchnics ( L1- L2)
Cranial Nerves (CN)
 CN III Oculomotor Nerve
 CN VII Facial nerve
 CN IX Glossopharangel Nerve
CN X Vagus nerve
Length Long/limited branching Short branched
The PANS preganglionic axons has limited The SANS system has a more
branching because one preganglionic PANS diffuse response when activated
neuron does NOT innervate many postganglionic
PANS neurons and that’s why the PANS has a
more limited focused response
NE released on AcH  Ach on Nn of poganglionic
postganglionic  Ach on Nn of adrenal Medulla

Postganglionic Location  Terminal ganglia (very close to the effector  Paravertebral SANS chain ganglia
Somas organ) which is a paired structure that's
 intramural ganglia (within the walls of the adjacent to the spinal column
organ)
 Prevertebral ganglia which is an
unpaired structure

Both are close to the spinal coloumn

that’s why we ge a dffuce respon
Length Short Long
NE released AcH  NE on adrenergic rector organs (α or
β)

 Ach on M3 of sweat gland

Effector organ M2 and M3 M3, Nn and adrenergic (α and β)
