Phileas Fogg Theatre Company Year 3

What was the workshop about?

This year the workshop was about the 1st world war. We have been discussing this topic
more often. With ELC we had a debate about the 1st world war and with history we have
discussed this too.

What was your role and what did you do?

Out workshop was from 15.20 until 17.00. When we arrived at school we put away our stuff
and immediately began. Tom made a very good first impression. He started yelling every
hard and directly everybody started listening. We got a little information about the 1 st world
war and after that all the girls went to the atrium. Each of us got a flag and we had wave the
boys good bye (they were going to the war) also we had to stand in two lines. When the
boys walked through the atrium we just had to wave with our flags and say things like:
‘Don’t die!’ or ‘We’ll miss you’. After this we were divided into two groups. One group was in
lead of Tom and one in lead of Jane. I was in Patty’s group. He started by explaining what it
meant if a boy would get a white feather. When a boy didn’t want to join the war it meant
that you were a loser or a coward. After that he began dividing roles. He would explain what
to do with that role and then chose somebody to do the piece. My role was that I was shot. I
needed to die and Julian and Gido would come pack me up and carry me away. It was really
fun because I had to throw my helmed off.

What did the atrium look like?

Of course the people from Phileas Fogg took a lot of props with them. In the middle of the
atrium, on the floor, stood two trenches. They had a wire on top of them. For the rest they
also had some smaller thongs like: helmets, guns and ropes. They had way mare props than
other years, that was really nice. It looked more real and you could empathize better.

Did you learn any new things?

I learned a lot of new things. The theme was the 1st world war so that was all we talked
about. We already discussed it with ELC and history but this was way more extensive. They
described how the people felt and that is something that is not talked about very often. I
learned a lot of how all the people felt in the war. It was very impressive.

What would you like to say to the people of the Phileas Fogg Theater?
Thank you! Thank you for 3 amazing years in which a learned so much. You taught me how
to learn in a nice and creative way. It was the very last year and that’s a pity. I hope that I
someday can experience this again.
