Warm-up or Pre-activity:

Getting to know you: It is an ice breaker activity for a group of children who don't
know each other well.

. We will start the session with a welcoming activity. This activity consists of:

Children stand in a circle. An adult starts off the game by throwing a ball at
someone in the circle and asking a question at the same time - such as "What's

a wide ribbon inside if you wish.

Post- activity:

Students will play the following outdoor activities.

“Hopscotch”

Use some sidewalk chalk and make a hopscotch grid. Number the squares from
one to nine. Pick a rock that is good for tossing. Small ones can bounce too much,
and larger ones are hard to throw. Start by tossing the rock onto Square 1. Hop
over the rock and hop with a single foot or both feet all the way to the end. Turn
around and come back, stopping on Square 2. Balancing on one foot, pick up the
rock in Square 1 and hop over Square 1 to the start. Continue this pattern with
Square 2. And so on. If you toss your rock and miss the correct square, your turn is
over.
Equipment: Hopscotch grid, rock or beanbag.

“Chinese Jump-Rope”

This game requires three people, or just one or two people with really good chairs.
It is easily done inside, assuming a sturdy floor. This game resembles regular jump
rope in that you jump. A lot. But you jump in a pattern. Two people (or chairs) put
their feet inside the rope and stretch them out, standing far enough apart for the
third person to jump between them. The third person, or jumper, faces one of the
people holding the rope and jumps in a pattern of left, right, inside, outside and on
the ropes. What pattern you use is up to you, but all the players should use the
same one. The game is started with the rope around the ankles. Once the jumper
does the jump correctly, the rope is moved up to the calves. Then to the knees, then
the thighs. Usually it doesn’t get any farther than that. Once you miss, it is someone
else’s turn.
Equipment: A stretchy-type rope or 5 to 6 meters of rubber bands tied together in
a circle.

Post activity:

“Chinese Dodgeball” game:

The goal of the game is to single highhandedly get everyone else with out going
down themselves.
It is a no teams dodge-ball game, everyone starts out on the edge of the boundary
or against the wall with the balls in the middle and when the leader yells/whistles
the start the students run for the balls. Once some one has a ball they are aloud to
take tree steps before they have to throw the ball. So the key is to pick it up and
throw it before people have time to run away.

If some one is hit they sit down right where they are. If the ball carrier has run out
of steps they can call the name of a person sitting down and have them hold the
ball for them. They can then run free and then call on that person again for them to
throw the ball back. Once the thrower has the ball back he/she now have three
more steps. The sitter can only hold one ball at a time and can not be partial. That
is even if the thrower is the one that got them down, they have to hold his/her ball
and try to give it back to that same person.

When the person is hit by a ball and goes down all of the people that he/she got
down stand back up and are now in the game. In addition any balls that they were
holding for other people become theirs to use. If some one goes down and still has
a ball being held by a sitter the sitter gives the ball the first standing person to run
up an d claim it. If a ball is caught the thrower has to sit down even if it was
intercepted while it was being given to a sitter. The sitter has to try to get the ball
back to it's owner when he/she calls for it.

Materials Needed: 2 balls (dodge balls or volley balls work best)

TUESDAY

Outdoor games Day

YOUNGEST:

“Three Ball Soccer”

This is soccer. Soccer with three different colour balls.

Set up a normal soccer playing field with a goal at either end.
One ball represents the guys only, another ball the girls, and the third ball is co-ed.
Make sure the players are clear on which ball is for which group. If a player
touches the wrong ball on purpose, teacher might want to pull them out of the
game for a minute.

Materials Needed: Two goals, 3 different color balls

“Balloon Relay Races”

These races are best for kids over 4.

Split the group into teams and have them stand in a single-file line. Give the leader
of each line a balloon. He must pass it through his legs to the player behind him.
That player passes it overhead to the next player. Repeat this pattern until the
balloon gets to the end of the line; the last player runs to the front of the line and
pops the balloon to win the game.
Variations: race from start to finish lines holding a balloon between their knees or
back-to-back with a partner, or, in pairs, balancing a balloon on a towel or piece of
newspaper.
Materials needed: Balloons or beachballs

“Ultimate Frisbee”

Divide the group into 2 teams.

Create a playing field with 2 "end zones" which are essentially rectangles marked
out with 4 cones on each end.
The aim of the game is to get someone from your team to catch the frisbee in the
end zone.
To start off the game, each team stands at their end zone and one team throws the
frisbee all the way across the field to the other team. They can let the frisbee land
and start playing straight away from there, or they can catch it and play on -
however if they drop it, the other team gets to take possesion.
When you have the frisbee you can pivot, but can't take any steps. If you throw it to
someone and it hits the ground in any way, even if the other team hits it out of the
air, then possesion swaps to the other team.
To defend, a player may stand in front of the person with the frisbee and obstruct
their throwing path, but cannot physically touch them. The defender can start
counting to 10 and if they reach it and the attacker hasn't thrown the frisbee yet
then possesion swaps.

Materials Needed: Frisbee

“Egg Races”

Form two teams. Give every player a spoon. Give each team a plastic egg. To play,
teams carry their egg from the starting line to a turnaround point and back again,
then pass it to a teammate to repeat the process. If the egg is dropped, the player
must stop and retrieve it. Whichever team gets the egg back and forth the fastest
wins.
Materials needed: Eggs, spoons

“Soccer relay”

1. Need three or four balls and cones…

2. Partners are placed in file formation.
3. Place cones at the end of the play area.
4. The first two partners have a soccer ball.
5. On signal, they must run, PASSING THE BALL FROM ONE TO THE OTHER… up
to.. and around… the cone.
6. They return passing the ball the same way ..and give the ball to the next two in
their team.
7. Relay play continues in same manner.

must stop and retrieve it. Whichever team gets the egg back and forth the fastest
wins.
Materials needed: Eggs, spoons

“Hula Hoop relay”

Divide group into two teams. Each team join hands to form a circle. Loop a hula
hoop over one player’s arm. Without letting go of the other player’s hands, he must
step into and through the hoop so it rests on his other arm. Then he can slide it
onto the next player’s arm and she must repeat the same maneuver. Whichever
team can pass the hoop all the way around the circle first, without letting go of
each others’ hands, is the winner.

WEDNESDAY

Indoor games Day

YOUNGEST:

“No Sir, Not I Sir”

Instructions:

You'll need to set up the chairs (one per student) in a fashion that they can be
easily counted off but still faces a central location (like a half/whole circle, two
inward facing lines... etc.) Then have all the students take a seat and then number
the seats from 1 to the last chair being the highest number (IE if you have 14 chairs
right to left it will be 1 -14). Make sure the students remember the number their
chair has.

The leader starts the game by announcing "The Prince of Paris has lost his hat and
number '__' has it!", you then start counting to 5. The person in the seat with the
number accused has to stand up and say "No sir not I sir, number '__' has it!" you
then start counting to 5 again and the newly accused repeats the process.
If a person does not stand up by the count of five then they must take the last seat
and everyone behind them moves up (example: if #3 gets booted then #4 becomes
the new #3 and #5 becomes the new #4 and so on. #1 & 2 don't move). Once
everyone has moved a new round begins. Remember that it is the seats that are
numbered so when everyone moves up a seat their number drops by 1. The goal is
to trip up the people with lower numbers than you so that you can make your way
to number 1.

Other things that can knock a player back:

Standing up when their number isn't called (if 6 is called and 5 stands up, 5 is
booted)

As you go through a few rounds and your students get the hang of it here are some
things to keep it fun:

1. Speed up your calling/counting (Start out very clear and understood and work
your way toward sounding like an auctioneer with a caffeine overdose)

2. When calling out the number of the accused point at someone else ("...& Number
3 has it!!!!" while pointing at number 10)

3. When counting to 5 walk toward a person who is not the accused as if you are
waiting for them to stand up (pretty much slight variation of the last one)

4. Change the piece of clothing that is being stolen, mention how naked the prince
feels

5. Give one of your older students/other leaders a tern as the caller because you
are going to lose your voice if this goes on for to long

6. You can boot for tripping up/stuttering on their "no sir not I sir" but the extent it
takes to be booted would be at the callers descression

Materials Needed: Chairs

“Secret Dancer”

A fun group game, sure to provide a whole lot of laughs. Might be suitable for a
disco night at your youth group!

Set up the group to stand in a circle, and choose one player to be the detective.
Send the detective outside.

When the detective has left the room, choose a player to be the "secret dancer".
They will need to pick a dance move and everyone will then start copying them.

When everyone is dancing, the detective is called back into the room and has three
guesses to choose who to original dancer is.

To make things interesting, the secret dancer then needs to change dance move,
and everyone needs to change with them. This allows the detective to discover the
secret dancer.

“Shoe Talk”

Often at the start of a youth camp or youth group year there are many people who
don't know each other. Even the leaders often don't know many of kids. What's
needed is a good ice breaker game which doesn't put too much pressure on
everyone.

I played this group game at a camp recently and it was a fantastic icebreaker idea.

1. Split the group into 2 halves.

2. Get each half of the group to line up against opposite sides of the room or hall.

3. Get each person to take of 1 shoe and make a pile of their team's shoes.

4. Get each person from one team to come a select a random shoe from the other
team's pile and then find the person that shoe belongs to.

5. Once they have found their match, have a question ready so each person in the
pair can ask each other a get to know each other a little bit better. Make sure you
don't leave this time too long, but don't make it too short either, give both people a
chance to answer.

6. Get the other team to do the same process with the first team's pile of shoes.

OLDEST:

4. Change the piece of clothing that is being stolen, mention how naked the prince
feels

5. Give one of your older students/other leaders a tern as the caller because you

using an accordion fold technique. Press each piece firmly.

THURSDAY

“Outdoor games Day”

YOUNGEST:

Students will play some outdoor games such as:

“Spud”

Its best to play outdoors in an open area.

Give everyone a number (1-however many players there are). Have a leader throw
a ball in the air and say one of the numbers that was given, that person has to
retrieve the ball, while that person is getting the ball, everyone else runs in the
other direction, once the person gets the ball and says "spud" no one can move
(including the person who's number got called) then (whiteout moving) the
person throws the ball at someone, if it hits them, they have a 'letter' (S) they can
try and doge the ball by ducking or leaning, but they can't pickup their feet.
The ball can hit more than one person per round. Then the leader throws the ball
in the air, calls out a different number and the whole thing start again. If you get hit
again then you have SP, then SPU, then SPUD and you're out.

This is loads of fun when you have 10-20 people playing, but however many work.

“Octopus”

Play as with dodge ball, but instead of sitting out to the side– players sit down
where they are tagged by the ball. From their sitting position, the octopus (tagged
kids) help with tagging any players who get close enough to be touched. If a player
is caught this way, they also sit down where they have been caught.

“Red Light, green Light”

Teacher select one child to start the game and be the “stoplight”.
All the children line up on the other side of gym.
The ‘stoplight’ yells “Green light!” and the children lined up start running.
Object of game: The first one to make it to the stoplight wins and is now the
stoplight.
It gets tricky when the stoplight changes…

 The stoplight should yell “Red light!” to get children to stop.

 Any movement by a child means she is sent back to the beginning.

 The stoplight can also call out “yellow light” which means the children can
only walk very slowly.

Variations to this game include yelling “red light” two times in a row, or adding
body movements. Say “green light” with your arms up one time and then say “red
light,” but throw your arms up again to confuse runners into thinking your body
language says “green light.”

“Cat and Mouse”

Have all players join hands in a circle. Choose a ‘Cat’ and a ‘Mouse’.
The cat chases the mouse around and through the circle.
Players help the mouse but not the cat. When Mouse is caught a new Cat and Mouse
are chosen.

OLDEST:

Students will play some outdoor games such as:

Handball, Volleyball or Football.

“Tag”
It seems that everyone knows how to play tag, but just in case it wasn’t in your
childhood game playing repertoire, here is how you play. A group of kids decides
who will start out as being “it.” That person chases the other people around, trying
to tag one of them with their hand. The newly tagged person is now “it.” There is
often the rule of “no tag-backs” where you can’t tag the person who just tagged
you. The game ends when everyone is tired of playing.

“Freeze Tag”
This is a variation of Tag where if the person who is “it” tags you, you have to
freeze where you are. Another participant can tag you to unfreeze you.

“Musical Chairs”
In a circle, arrange chairs facing outward to total one fewer than the number of
players. An additional player needs to be in charge of the music. When the music
starts, the players walk around the chairs. When the music stops, players sit down
in the nearest chair as soon as they can. The one player who does not have a chair
is out. One of the chairs is then removed, and the game continues in this manner.
The player that sits in the final chair is the winner. This game is traditionally
played inside, but it can also be played outside with outdoor furniture and a
portable music player.
Equipment: Music player or person making music, chairs.

“Limbo”
Two players hold a soft rope or stick 3′ to 4′ long. Players take turns leaning
backward and shuffling under the rope. Lower the rope after each round.

Volleyball Game

“Four Square”

This ball game is played on a square court further divided into four smaller
squares, numbered one through four. One player stands in each of the squares,
with the highest ranked player in number one, lowest in number four. You bounce
the ball among the players, bouncing once in the other person’s square before that
person catches it. When I played this as a kid, we had countless additional rules to
choose from. The person in square one got to choose the rules. Anyone who
violates the rules will have to move down in the ranking, or be eliminated with
another player rotating in to square four.
Equipment: A four square court or sidewalk chalk, a playground ball.

“Run Rabbit Run”

Half of the group are called foxes and the other half are named rabbits.
Rabbits are standing behind a line at one end of the play area. (home)
Foxes are scattered all over the gym.
 Captain Rabbit leads his/her brood for a walk.
 The leader of the foxes says : “Run Rabbit Run!”

 All rabbits run trying to return to their home.

 All TAGGED rabbits become foxes.

 Continue until there are no “rabbits” left.

OLDEST:

“Dodgeball”

The timeless classic game - dodgeball - requires little set up effort and is always a
winner. There are two ways to play it and they're both explained below:

Classic
Divide the playing area into two halves.
Divide the group into two teams and designate one team to each half. To start the
game, each player must be touching the baseline of their half.
Along the half way line of the playing field, place all the balls you're going to be
using.
When the game starts, players can run to get the balls first and then the action
begins.
The aim of the game is to get the opposition team out by throwing the balls at
them. If a ball hits a player below the waist, they are eliminated and must sit out
for the rest of the round. If a player catches a ball on the full then one eliminated
player from their team may return to the game.

“Four Square”

This ball game is played on a square court further divided into four smaller
squares, numbered one through four. One player stands in each of the squares,
with the highest ranked player in number one, lowest in number four. You bounce

choose from. The person in square one got to choose the rules. Anyone who

Number of Players: Four, unless you take turns.
Equipment: A four square court or sidewalk chalk, a playground ball.

“Parachute”
Fun for kids of all ages, this game involves a large round parachute, preferably with
handles, with people holding the parachute all around the edges. It helps if
someone is in charge telling people what to do. Players can just ruffle the
parachute up and down a little bit, they can go all the way up and all the way down,
or all the way up and then run underneath, sitting on the edge of the parachute,
which can create a bubble of air with everyone inside. Players can also place light
objects such as wiffle balls or beanbags on top of the parachute, and make them
jump by ruffling the parachute. Also, one person can sit in the middle of the
parachute and everyone ruffles it near the ground. If there is a smooth floor and a
light child, the child can sit in the middle on top of the parachute and everyone else
can walk partway around still holding the parachute edge. Then everyone pulls
backward, spinning the child. There are countless variations.
Number of Players: Depends on the size of the parachute, but usually eight to ten.
Equipment: A play parachute.

“Red Light, Green Light”

With enough room, this game can easily be played inside. One person is the traffic
light at one end, and the other players are at the other end. When the traffic light
faces the group, he or she says, “Red light!” and everyone must freeze. The traffic
light then turns his or her back and says, “Green light!” while the group tries to get
as close to the traffic light as possible. The traffic light turns around quickly, again
saying, “Red light!”, and if anyone is spotted moving, they have to go back to the
starting place. The first person to tag the traffic light wins and gets to be the next
traffic light.
Number of Players: A small group.
Equipment: None.
