Self-Management
How well did I manage my time during this process (i.e. remaining
on task, not leaving things to the last minute)?
How did I manage my stress?
Did I follow through with my goals?
Did I produce enough evidence to support each strand?
Did I take risks and explore areas beyond my comfort zone?
Did I create quality evidence?
Explain:
How well did I manage my time during this process (i.e. remaining
on task, not leaving things to the last minute)?
How did I manage my stress?
Explain: I think that I was very stressed during this english semester. It was
not necessarily because of the english products, but more of outside factors.
For example, as in this semester you had to turn assignments every week,
projects from other classes piled up. There were days were it felt that it was
too much work for me to handle, especially in the weeks of my first product. In
this product, I did a 34 page analysis of the Emancipation Proclamation. I was
trying to do the best product I could in the first week, to set the bar for other
ones in the future. Unfortunately, I had to extend it to two weeks, because this
product took me many hours and with the homework from other classes
increasing, it wasn't realistic to finish it in only the one week. This affected my
work because it eliminated the one week for another products. Nonetheless, I
did manage to create a quality presentation and Newsela before the beginning
of the first break (semana santa). Later on, after poetry week, I believe that I
did start to get a hold of my time managements. As a result, I did have time to
create an essay connecting the ideas that I had demonstrated in the semester,
which is one my favorite writing pieces that I have done. Conclusively, in the
beginning, I did have a lot of stress, which I didn't know how to manage. Yet,
as I got more accustomed to it, I grew to become a better at time management
and planning out my products for deadlines.
Did I follow through with my goals?
Extra: Throughout this process, I do believe that I sticked to my plan and
deadlines. As mentioned in the paragraph above, I did struggle at first to
accommodate time for english and other subjects. It was very difficult because
I wanted to deliver the best products that I wanted, yet other factors got in the
way. Even though it was difficult at first, after organizing myself better, time
management and meeting deadlines became much more easier.
Did I produce enough evidence to support each strand?
Did I take risks and explore areas beyond my comfort zone?
Did I create quality evidence?
I think that I really did do my best effort to give the best quality products in
this semester. Before, I really did not take risks or explored areas beyond my
realm. I would do the typical presentations or a short paragraph about my
topics. This time, I stepped it up in quality and quantity. For example, in my
mind, I would of never thought that I could've done a 34 page analisis with
over 20 citations or an essay that reached up to 2000 thousand words. As
mentioned, it really shocked me that I'm capable of doing this types of
products. In the start, I honestly thought that I wasn't going to put much effort
in it or hit all of the strands, yet I proved myself wrong. Firstly, in all of the
strands I have provided quality evidence, with most, if not all of them reaching
extending. I do believe that I have deserved the levels between meeting and
extending, because I have worked so hard in this class and delivered products
that honestly I am very proud of. It is not often that I thrive as a student and
worker, yet English Honors definitely is one of them.
Self-Awareness
Explain:
How well did I consider my interests and strengths in developing my
plan for growth this semester?
Do I have evidence of growth in the areas I struggled in?
What evidence do I have to support my growth as a 9th grade English
honors student?
Can I articulate who I am as an English learner?
I actually did not consider my interests and strengths when developing my plan for
the semester. Rather, I found out through the semester, that the topic that I chose,
perfectly aligned with my intellectual capabilities. My decision making for this
projects was based on what I was passionate about, not upon my strengths. African
American history, for years, has been one of my favorite topics to study because
their is so much history in their origins. Not to mention, their fight and struggles
throughout the way, facing a society that violated their rights continuously, and
still establishing their identity in the United States, for me is outright inspirational. I
really did, as mention, want to understand more of this history because I knew I
was going to enjoy. I did not decide at any moment my project because of my
personal strengths. In the topic of growth, I do believe that I have improved
tremendously from last semester. For example, in my essays and writing pieces, I
would normally stand on the developing level because I did not organize my ideas.
In this products, I have started to learn how to write in a way, were my paragraph
structure is understandable and the reader is able to still understand all my points.
There is a clear growth because before I would always put the quote in one
sentence and explain it, rather, than understanding that there should be flow when
putting quotes, and when introducing an explanation, it has to connect with what I
wrote priorly. Or also that I should always be careful with changing the ideas
completely, as their will be a disconnect with the whole purpose of the paragraph.
This list can go on and on, because I really did take the feedback that was give and
improved my writing. In Semester 2, I showcased the growth that I had overtaken.
This can be seen, as I went from being in the developing/meeting level to, in almost
every assignment, achieve extending. This is because I took the risks and worked
harder that I’ve ever done before, I really gave everything that I had. I am very
proud of it, as, in my opinion, that is what a 9th grade honors student should have,
the drive to learn from mistakes and evolutionize as writer/reader and person.
Conclusively, I know that I have shown who I am as a learner. In hard times, I didn’t
quit or stayed my zone of comfort. Rather, I learned from experiences and
flourished to my ideal self.
