To

Whom It May concern

This is in consideration to all the juniors and people sitting for placements in the next
and coming semesters. A small note for everyone might be helpful for all. After going
through the placement season, I have noted the following points which I would like to
share with all.

For students/preparation for IT / CS/ IS

 Non-IT people or students of ECE, EEE, Mech, Chemical, Civil, Bpharm please
make sure that you take this note seriously coz all we want at the end is a happy
ending 
 Don’t be reluctant to learn. Nobody wants to code ..I get it but we all have to!
So please do not think that IT job is only for CS/IS. Anyone can make it-
if efforts are taken at the right time. So here it goes:

a) C basics (C-aptitude aucse.com/ Test your C skills) - basically syntax

and find the o/p types code snippets. Be careful that a little bit of accuracy is needed. And
only following the pdf will be more than enough!!!!

NOTE: Balagurusamy is not enough. And not at all enough if you start reading it after
companies start coming to campus.!!!

b) Crack the Interview (seriously)- This is a very strong MANTRA for

placements. If followed seriously, you can knock off any interview. Be patient and follow
it in parts. Not all of it can be done in a week. Codes will take more than one revision
because interviews/written tests require you to WRITE CODES on PAPER/ONLINE
TEST. So practice codes on paper, understand the algo and try to do reproduce it on
paper.

That's it.
If you are going to give a shot for dream companies:
 Algorithms on GEEKS 4 GEEKS. It is an awesome website. Think it as
your TEXTBOOK for 3 months and you will see the results on your own. (Go
through ALL major algos in links : trees/linked lists/arrays)

 Video Lectures by Data Structures and Algorithms by Dr. Naveen Garg (IIT Delhi).
They are superb and do not require any prerequisite. If you are not a JAVA
person, you can skip those codes in the lectures. But follow and note things down
coz it will be very useful for companies like Factset/ Morgan Stanley
Also if time permits go through OS lectures by PKB (shared on DC). These will not
only be helpful for your interviews, but also written. Learning the concepts shows
the interviewer that you are interested to learn even if you tell basic terms etc.
(What could be easier than this? )

c) Aptitude - Make a habit of practicing Aptitude every day for at least 2 hours
irrespective whether you have a company coming or not. Source for Apti - (R S Aggarwal
not good enough for most exams. Only formula are good. You can find them easily on
IndiaBIX too). Awesome Collection available on our DC . Download previous year
company papers and just keep solving even if you don't have the answers). CAT is too
high level. People not preparing for CAT – don’t get scared!! It won’t be asked.
Speed and accuracy is all that matters!!!!!
Before appearing for any written exam, just think that it is your last chance and you CAN
crack it coz you are SO DAMN PREPARED!!!

So see everyone clears for an IT job. And please people in Core branches who think that
“Coding Sucks”.. I would like to say something as I did on my FB status
“Coding is a necessary evil”.!!!
If you start preparing 2-3 months prior to your placements, you can do wonders.
Remember- “EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING IS A COMPETITION!!!”

You can keep trying for other core companies but a back-up job is always good isn’t it? 
And apart from that you can have all other accessories

1) Looking up company info on internet a day before (Trust me that never

helps). I mean, no use knowing all about the damn company if you don’t even
clear the written test! Ha?
2) LATE PREPARATION: Do not start preparing after companies start coming to
campus when placements have already started.
3) Wait for your chance. If you follow the tips above, it’s not gonna be late 
4) Keep up with your mental toughness. Don’t be disappointed if your best friend or
even enemy gets placed before you. You are becoming tough everyday 
5) Please please please share information. There is no point hiding or keeping
an algorithm from your friend. You will be at loss if you do so. (This is especially
for girls---Start Talking for GOD’S SAKE!!!!!)
6) Motivate each other and learn every day!!! Do not complain. Keep working.
7) JAVA is not necessary. Out of 9/10, you will never be rejected for not knowing
JAVA. Just learn the basic concepts of OOP. Take help from CS guys for that!!
8) Before any company comes, do not start going by what they require. They put
several requirements. They don’t want you to know any of it. Just that you should
have a basic hand in coding and DSA. Rest will be just cake walk. TRUST
ME!!! I literally wasted 2 weeks just following their requirement list and they
don’t ask a question from the huge list of coding languages!!!
9) Overall- Don’t be too over confident. There are always best/average people. You
got to place yourself in any case!!
ALL THE BEST TO YOU ALL
