Queries within Microsoft Access are user-defined filters of the raw data in the ExecuComp tables. You may
build a query to pull specific Executive Compensation information that is stored in the tables. Follow the steps
below to build a query in Microsoft Access.
• The AnnComp table provides the needed information for most executive-compensation
queries.
• Colev provides additional company-descriptive data.
• Person provides person detail.
• Coperol provides data about a person working at a company.
• Codirfin provides selected company-financial data
• DirectorData provides information about director compensation
• The other tables provide additional detail about executive compensation.
4. Select the desired table(s) using the Ctrl key and click Add. When finished, click Close.
5. In each of the tables, double-click the desired item(s). The definition for each ExecuComp data item is
available through the ExecuComp documentation. Brief descriptions of each item are in the DataItems
table.
7. Click the button under the Design tab to run the query.

Advanced Query Tip: Not all executives receive option grants, have pension plans etc. If you wish to
query such detail tables and display data for both executives that have detail data and those who do
not, then do the following, using the Pension table as an example.
a. Create a new query and select the AnnComp and Pension tables as described above.
b. Access will automatically join the tables for you. However, the default join method is to only display
records where there is data both in the AnnComp and Pension tables.
Important Note! You should only use one of the detail-level tables (DeferredComp, Ltawdtab,
OutstandingAwards, Pension, PlanBasedAwards, and Stgrttab) in a single query. Otherwise your
query will return unpredictable results.

8. Save your query by clicking the disk icon at the top left side of your display.
10. Select the External Data tab and click the Excel icon (between the Saved Exports and Share Point
List) icons to export your data.
