Animals do not deserve to be considered as experimental products when being
tested on because it is cruel/ inhumane, abusive, unnecessary .One hundred fifteen
million animals are tested on globally, if you divide 115 million by 46 medications that were approved that is only .00000004% animals that pass the experiment, and do not end up dying, now just imagine the percentage for the animals that are tested and are wasted, it is not even worth a penny if you think about it. Most animals that are tested and experimented on either are severely injured or the experiments may lead to death, many lives of these animals are wasted, and most testers only use mammals because they are “similar to us”, this may include, dogs, cats, rabbits, mice ect. Many of these animals are supposed to be happy in a home, they are supposed to be our best friends, they are supposed to live a happy spoiled life. An alternative to testing animals is by using computer models, so like robots with cells of humans. I personally think this is a really good idea, because one you aren't killing any types of animals but the only problem is that, it may take longer, because you have to create the robots. But I think they will find a way just create one robot and reuse it, but I think that it will be worth it because most animals most have to suffer and die just for medication. Animals deserve to live freely and happy, and should not be known as experimental products. For instance, one reason why animals should not be considered as experimental products is because it is cruel and inhumane. Many animals end up dying from the tests and testers already expect it. “The commonly used LD50 (lethal dose 50) test involves finding out which dose of a chemical will kill 50% of the animals being used in the experiment.” (pro con) In just one of these tests 50% of the animals that are being used end up dying. This is considered cruel/ inhumane because there are about thousands of animals that are tested for just one product, and half of the animals die, and the sad part is that many testers know it, and they are fine with it/ used to it because animals do not have have the same rights as us, plus they live shorter. They don't see animals as living things, but as props or experiments. Not only- but also why animal testing is cruel/ inhumane is because animals are not given treatments so that they do not suffer as much. “71,370 animals suffered pain during experiments while being given no anesthesia for relief, including 1,272 nonhuman primates, 5,771 rabbits, 24,566 guinea pigs, and 33,280 hamsters.” (pro con) Animals that were experimented on did not receive any type of pain relief treatments because as I said earlier, they don't really care about these animals. Just imagine yourself in so much pain, it feels like your going to die, and being forbidden to take medication to help, that's how these animals feel. Not only are they already being tortured by all of these machines and products, but they are stuck in a cage there whole life, tortured to be in pain, and are on the verge of dying. In addition to why animals should not be considered as experimental products is because it is abusive. Many many many animals die is very cruel ways. “Over 100 million animals are burned, crippled, poisoned, and abused in US labs every year.” (DoSomething) As they have justed started animals are burned, crippled, poisoned and abused, and all of these events lead to death. About 115 million animals are tested yearly and if we divided 100 million by 115 million, we get about 87% of animals ended up dying, or seriously injured and are stuck in cages there whole lives, now if that is not consider abusive, then I don't know what is. Animals are also being abused outside of the testing laboratories, animals are not being monitored outside of laboratories, animals are crowded in cages and no being fed properly. “Animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and other wounds to study the healing process, the infliction of pain to study its effects and remedies.”(ProCon) In other words, animals are being forced to do many things that they feel uncomfortable doing/ may lead to serious consequences. Animals are forced to take these experimental products even if they are deadly, or very harmful to their bodies. Once they are harmed the testers just wait until they die, or they kill them themselves with medications. As a final point, animals should not be considered as experimental products because it is unnecessary. One reason is that there are alternatives to animal testing. “ Testing, such as studying cell cultures in a petri dish, can produce more relevant results than animal testing because human cells can be used.” (pro con) An alternatives to animal testing is by using human cells, it is way safer and it doesn't involve animals, with is 100 percent more humane. As in result of using human cells, I believe that the results will be more accurate because when people use animals to test human products the results aren’t that accurate, because humans and animals are different. Last but not least, “90% of drugs fail in human trials despite promising results in animal tests – whether on safety grounds or because they do not work… A clinical trial of Hepatitis B drug fialuridine had to be stopped because it caused severe liver damage in seven patients, five of whom died. It had been tested on animals first.” (Cruelty Free International) This quote is saying that even animal tests aren’t that accurate and it is just a waste of an animal. Actually this can also be a very dangerous problem for us because if the products aren’t actually 100% safe for us, it can create a diseases or it can be very harmful to our bodies and cause us to die. Animals are similar to us, but they aren’t just like us, and this can be risky if we want to test products on animals. Other may say that animals do deserve to be considered as experimental products when being tested on because they do not have as many rights as us, and they have shorter life cycles. ‘Animals do not have the cognitive ability or moral judgment that humans do and because of this they have been treated differently than humans by nearly every culture throughout recorded history.” (procon) Animals do not have the same rights as us, so they technically do not have to be considered as living things. But, animals are living things, and if we do not consider them as living things they are being abused and tortured, it should be illegal. Animals deserve to live a happy, free life, and just because there lives are shorter, they should not be spending it in a cage. Animals should be treated the same way we are treated, with respect. Therefor, animals should definitely not be considered as experimental products, but as lovable pets. Animals should definitely not be considered as experimental products. Animals are abused, and tortured in laboratories and this should be stopped. Even though many people don't care about this topic or support animal testing, there are still many alternatives to animal testing, which may include using human cells to test products. Animals do not have as many rights, but they should still be treated with respect, we should treat animals the way that we want to be treated, they should for sure not be known as experimental products. Therefor, animals should not be considered as experimental products, animals end up being abused both physically and mentally, is messed up and they are treated as props, we have to realize that they have lifes.
