3. Why is it important to know more about hymns:

• Hymns are important songs to learn about because they talk about God, about nature, about
God’s love for us, about how we can trust in Him no matter what happens, and many other
things that’s good for us. And when we sing it we are reminded of those good things.

• Jesus wants us to be reminded of these songs.

• Deuteronomy 31:19 — Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach it the children
of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the
children of Israel.
• What did the Israelite children sing? The law of Moses, the experiences they had in the
wilderness.

• Why did God want the children to memorise these songs? Deuteronomy 31:21. And it shall
come to pass, when many evils and troubles are befallen them, that this song shall
testify against them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their
seed: for I know their imagination which they go about, even now, before I have brought
them into the land which I share.
• Ellen White wrote that when Jesus was a kid, he also learned many songs and memorised
them so that when he was tempted, he would sing, and it would help him not to be tempted
to do bad things. Isn’t that amazing?

• Because you’re learning piano — you have already an edge. You can learn the songs faster
and memorise quicker,

4. Hymns are a little different from what they used to sing before. It’s a bit modern compared to
their songs, but it still talks about the same thing. So it’s still important to learn more about
it.
