JT8D MAINTENANCE MANUAL (PN 481671)

COMBUSTION SECTION − INSPECTION/CHECK−01

Task 72−40−00−220−001:

1. Combustion Area (Hot Section) Inspection

NOTE: Combustion area (Hot Section) inspection is included in

this manual since it can be physically accomplished on
the wing. However, experience indicates it is more
convenient to remove the engine and perform these tasks
at a heavy maintenance level per the JT8D ENGINE MANUAL,
Chapter/Section 72−00−00, Check−01.

A. Basic Hot Section Inspection Requirements

(1) Remove and inspect combustion chambers. Inspect per

Section 72−41−14, Maintenance Practices.

(2) Inspect combustion chamber inner and outer ducts per

Section 72−51−21, Maintenance Practices.

(3) Inspect 1st stage turbine vanes per Section 72−50−00,

Maintenance Practices.

(4) Inspect 1st stage turbine blades per Section 72−50−00,

dents, and cracks.

(6) Visually inspect (looking forward through diffuser

case) 13th stage compressor blades and exit stator
vanes for evidence of nicks, dents, and cracks.

(7) Inspect fuel nozzles and supports per Chapter/Section

73−00−00, Maintenance Practices.

NOTE: On fuel system with conical−seat fuel nozzle

connections but without transfer tubes
(incorporating SB 2722 but prior to SB
4484), retorque fuel nozzle connections per
Chapter/Section 73−00−00, Inspection/Check every
time connections are accessible.

(8) For all engines incorporating EGT System Boost Circuit,

perform electrical check per Section 77−20−00,
