How would science contribute in the

better understanding society?

People are shaped by the societies they are raised in. This is a very
difficult concept for many to understanding because society quite
literally makes people believe that their conceptualizations and
interpretations of their surrounding world is correct. People
cannot see their own ‘society’ and its impact.
‘Society’ has so many meanings. It could refer to small villages, a
country as a whole, or even a whole linguistic/religious group.
Society essentially refers to how a larger system runs, focusing on
the human components. Society and culture are very similar
words and tend to be confused. Culture can help to shape the
interactions and quirks of a society, but does not quite reach the
same scale.
Sociology and anthropology are incredibly significant because
they understand that society differs across the world and they aim
to study and understand these differences. Knowledge and
understanding of these societal differences can help create a more
tolerant society.
Take Islam for example. The religion of Islam as a whole can be
seen as its own society comprised of many different cultural
components. Many schools in the Western world fail to educate
students properly on Islam’s society and customs, and therefore
many people view it as something scary. Many people group Islam
as one huge entity instead of learning its nuances and its smaller
networks of society based on location and historical influences.
Islam in Pakistan is very different from Islam in Lebanon.
Anthropology and sociology can help break down and analyze
these differences in order to paint a better picture of Islamic
society both on a smaller scale and in general.
Taking the time to study cultures and people creates a more
concrete understanding of society, whether it be the society in that
specific region, or the society in ones own Nation.
Therefore, the most important contribution would be tolerance.
