Someone is so keen and focused in

completing the letters of the alphabets on

the table. Oh hi there Natasha! These past
few days, I have always been hearing you
singing the ABC song. “A is for apple, A-A-
Apple! B is for ball…” and the song
continues. I thought that it would be great Looking so closely on what to put
for me to further enhance your knowledge on the respective letters.
through this board game I set up on the
table. You came from outside and this board
games with lots of circular drawings caught
your attention. You sat down and checked it
out. You then realised that there were
letters on the table. What it made more
exciting was that you had to look for the
letters that you would like on the pile of
letters on the tray that was put upside
down. Looks so interesting and challenging,
isn’t it?! Let’s check out what you did!

Natasha managed to complete it! Almost there Natasha!

Natasha, you started looking at the letters that you were familiar with. You
first spotted letter “a” and placed it at the beginning. you then looked for
other letters and put them on their proper places. You have done a lot of
letters for a short time, telling me that you are familiar with most of
them. I have noticed that you looked closely at the letters to match the
letter on the board. Sometimes, you would compare it closely just to be
sure. you are very much determined to finish what you have started and you
did it!

I thought that it would end there but you saw the board with small letters
written in it. You then decided to do another set using that board. You
carefully looked at the letters. It’s a bit tricky for you but easier I guess
as there were few letters to choose from. Upon realising that few letters
were missing, you tried your best to look for it around the centre. And then
you spotted some! You proudly showed me what you’ve got. Yes, you have
found the most important letter in that alphabet, the first letter of your
name, “N”. You immediately put it in and looks like we’re done Natasha!
and your journey in literacy particularly
in your interest in letters continues.
Today, I put the big board out and see what
you would be doing with it. We sat facing
each other. You spotted a letter and said,
“Teacher Rose, my name starts with
this!” (while showing me the letter n).
“That’s right Natasha! Do you think we can
look for the other letters of your name?”.
You smiled and immediately looked for the
other letters. To support you, I said, “N-A-
TAsha, what could be the next letter?”
and you said, “A” and looked for it. It was
easy for us to do it together because you
had such a brilliant recognition of the
sounds of each letter. You just had a bit
of a hard time when it was “Sha” but still
we did it! Look at your pretty name spelled
correctly by you. Well done!
Another way for you to extend your letter
recognition is through this learning experience.
In the afternoon, I saw you motivated in
completing this floor letters. The way you
arranged it was not according to the alphabet
but what’s amazing is that even if the letters
are placed upside down, you still managed to
recognize them. I noticed that you have such
great concentration when you are working on
something, the reason why you always complete
what you have started. You also worked
according to your logical thinking skills. There
were letters that could be the same but then
you still spotted the difference. An example of
that is the letter “W” and “M”. You were holding
the letter ‘W’ and tried putting in “M”. Noticing
that it’s quite small for it, you did not try
again and thought that it could be in the other
letters. That’s a good way of using your logical
thinking skills.
Puzzle time! This puzzle would help you further enhance
your literacy and letter recognition, Natasha! You saw
this and immediately grabbed a chair to sit on. You said,
“I know how to do this!” and so I just observed you
while sitting next to you. as you do the puzzle, it helped
a lot that you were singing the abc song so you would
know what the next letter would be. you were familiar
with most of the pictures shown that greatly helped
you to figure out what letter it starts with. in just a
short time, you managed to finish the puzzle with your
friends.

we sang the abc song after completing the puzzle. you

were doing so well until we reached this picture of what
you said, “G is for doll”. i thought i just didn’t hear you
properly so i asked again what you said and you
repeated, “g is for doll”. and then i realised, Yes it does
look like a doll but I told you that doll starts with
letter D and not G. You admitted your mistake and took
the time to look again the picture. Don’t worry Tash, you
will master the letter recognition soon.
Today, i set up this area so the children would
have the chance to still do quiet reading since it’s
a nice day outside. “Teacher Rose!”, you called
from afar. I looked around to see and I spotted
you in this corner with your cousin anya. you
spotted the abc book and was browsing it when i
came near. “Hi natasha!”, i said. “look teacher
rose!”, you said while showing the ABC book to me. I
sat next to you and started to browse the book
that you showed me. “A is for…” and you said,
“Apple!” upon seeing the picture. We continued
reading until we reached the last page. “Would
you like to make our own version of ABC?”, I asked.
You confidently said, “Yes!”. And so we begin with,
“A is for…?”. “ANya!” while looking at her. “B is
for…”, and I waited. “Boston!”, you yelled. we were
like that Until we reached letter Z. It was a fun
experience making those personalised ABC with
you. You did a great job Natasha!
