Gong Xi Fa Cai! Kung Hei Fat Choi! Happy chinese new year Eddie!

Today, we have decided to bake mooncakes just in time for our Chinese 2019
celebration. Eddie, you have always been wanting to join our baking
experiences and today would be an extra special one because we’re doing
mooncakes to celebrate one of your most special chinese celebrations. We
poured all the ingredients and you were there to show your full support
and extend your helping hands. Just the right amount of every ingredients,
we mixed them all up and I cant help but to start being hungry! I know you
too!
We had to put it in the
fridge for a while until it
hardens. After a while, I
came to check if it is ready
to be moulded, and yes! We
can start making balls for
the mooncake. I showed
how to make each ball and
asked the tamariki to
flatten it and make a tiny
little hole in the middle
for the strawberry jam.
You did what I exactly told
you to do Eddie!

This was quite a hard job

but we did not give up and
we finished til the end. And
look at how it turned out.
We have made so many
mooncakes and they’re all
ready to be baked. Oohh
can’t wait to see what they
would turn out.

After just a few minutes of

baking, we have already the
final mooncakes! they look
so nice and yummy
especially with the
strawberry on top. Yum!
Can’t wait to eat it for
morning tea!
Aside from the cooking, we have
offered the children with some
great literacy and numeracy
experiences. One day, I spotted you
at the main area concentrating in
putting the pompoms on the circles
drawn on the piece of paper. And you
tried to use chop sticks! Wow, such
great hand eye coordination when
you did that. But later on, you have
used your hand to put every pompom
on the circles.

The following day, I have set

this up to introduce how to
write the numbers in chinese.
You gave it a go and was able to
write the number 1. You tried
doing the other numbers but
then some of them were quite
difficult. It’s okay eddie
atleast you have tried writing
one number. well done!
From cooking to literacy to some artwork experiences. I am happy that you
had been involved in most of the learning expereinces offered during chinese
new year celebration. It is good that you were able to partake in learning
experiences of your own culture. Being involved in these expereinces allow
you to further explore what your culture is all about. It promotes such
great sense of cultural awareness which greatly enhances your own sense
of belonging in the centre.

Aside from that, I have noticed that you have been showing some great
dispositions. When we did the cooking, you were being so attentive and
listened to every single word I said feeling like you wouldnt want to miss
anything. Your determination to learn was shown when you tried to write the
numbers. You explored it on your own and through many trials, you were
able to write a number in mandarin. And ofcourse, how could I forget how
creative you were in making of the lantern. And oh, how could I forget that
You have been such a great help to me especially when we put the fans as a
decoration. Thank you for all your help and I hope that you enjoyed our
chinese new year celebration this year!
