Curriculum Focus
This month we will be
discussing the creation
story and thanking God
for all of the wonderful
new life that we
celebrate in spring. We
will be focusing on how
we can take care of
our planet as well as
celebrating all of Gods
creations both big and
small.

Scientist in the School

On Friday May 8, we will be having Scientist in the
school come in to present a Little friends of the Earth
workshop. Students will visit 5 workstations throughout
the morning that will help us learn how to care for our
earth. We require 4 parent volunteers to help us with
the workstations. If you are interested please let us
know by April 16. We truly appreciate your help and
cant wait to learn all about taking care of our planet.

Making Math Meaningful

This month we will focus on the estimation
and passage of time, measuring time to
the hour, and we will explore Canadian
money. We will also continue to work with
number sense as we compose and
decompose numbers to ten.

Which Takes Longer

Set a kitchen timer for a minute and
generate a list of things you can do that
take less than a minute or more than a
minute. Ex. Singing the ABCs (less) putting
on my shoes (more).

More or Less

The Same Number

Gather a collection of pennies, nickels or

dimes in you hand and ask your child:
Do you think I have more or less than 10
in my hand? Count the coins together
before repeating the game. You can
count the pennies by 1, the nickels by 5
and the dimes by 10 to review skip
counting and reveal the value of the coin
as well as the number of coins.

Challenge your child to separate a

collection of coins into two equal piles.
Have your child then check by counting
the objects in each pile and decide
whether the piles have the same amount,
or whether one pile has more than the
other.
