Stage 4: Plan

One sheet per group

Due May 31st

Detailed descriptions of the tests you need to conduct:

For each test- what is the test, the purpose, general procedure, and what is
needed to conduct it

Test 1: Finding and testing an endemic poison for other places like Hawaii or
the Galapagos. For this test we would have to firstly test several endemic
plants for poison, then test the poisonous ones to see if endemic species are
immune and if invasive species are susceptible. If we cannot find a suitable
poison then research would have to be done on creating a synthetic poison
with the desired properties. The resources needed for this would be, access to
the areas flora, genetic profiles of the areas invasive and endemic life, and
possibly chemicals to create a synthetic poison.

Test 2: Finding the best way to deliver the poison without harming endemic
life, and getting enough invasive life. The procedures for this would be using
the selected poison in small areas with different delivery attempts, these
would be trying different meats or green mixtures with different pheromones
or chemicals attached to make sure the right species are targeted. The
resources needed for this would be knowledge of the trophic levels and what
attracts and repels certain species.

Test 3: Checking for successes and failures along with ways to improve the
poison, delivery, or procedures. The procedures for this would be to take
surveys and ecological testing of areas to see how successful the poison was.
The resources for this would mostly be scientists and government agencies to
take surveys and check the ecological effects.
Test 4: Continuation of ongoing tests in Australia and New Zealand, for the
successes and failures of their current anti feral measures. These are mainly
being done through ecological surveys and censuses. The resources for these
are already accounted for and the tests are ongoing and led by government
funded organizations.
