Dear Ms. Casto:

Our team would like to express our appreciation for the opportunity to work with
Skills Plus to support your mission of improving the functional skills and increasing
the independence of stroke survivors. We are excited to promote this mission by
aiding in marketing and community outreach strategies for Skills Plus.

Our team at Sunrise Consulting is confident that we possess the necessary skills to
successfully execute this project. Our team includes three members with
experience in marketing and two members with a background of finance and
accounting. We are passionate about making a positive impact on our community
by providing our services to organizations like Skills Plus.

Attached to this letter is the proposal for Skills Plus. The proposal covers the

Executive Summary
Overview
For more than 30 years, Skills Plus has provided functional, cognitive, social, and
physical assistance to stroke survivors and other disabled adults. Skills Plus prides
itself on making the most beneficial and affordable service to their clients. These
services include activities focused on functional skills and independence,
opportunities for group interaction and socialization, and an overall safe,
supportive and stimulating learning environment led by credentialed medical
professionals. Skills Plus is dedicated to aiding stroke survivors and their services
are desperately needed by many.

The Problem
With the goal to provide the most affordable service, Skills Plus has neglected their
own needs as an organization. Currently, the organization faces significant debt and
rising operational costs threaten the prosperity of the program. Garnering $150,000
from fees and $54,000 from social services still leaves the organization $50,000 in
debt. The company is understaffed and current employees feel overwhelmed with
responsibilities. This has led to inefficient outreach efforts and outdated marketing
materials.

The Solution
As consultants, our group has various ideas on how to combat this issue. First and
foremost, the prices for Skills Plus classes and services needs to be increased. We
plan to aid in this transition and clearly communicate to clients why the prices have
increased as well as other operational changes. Secondly, we plan to strengthen
Skills Plus’ social media presence and online websites. Lastly we will increase
marketing efforts by updating the brochure, business cards, creating an online
internship posting, and increasing community outreach.

Outcomes and Benefits
Through these deliverables, Skills Plus will receive updated marketing content,
increased community relationships, and a clear method of communication to the
clients regarding operational changes. These efforts also aim to attract new clients
as well as employees for the company. The overall goal is to assist Skills Plus in
generating the funds and resources to continue their services.

Introduction
Strokes in the United States
A stroke is a severe disease that harms
the arteries leading directly to the
brain as well as the brain itself. Strokes
are currently the main cause of
disability and the fifth most prominent
cause of death in the United States.
According to the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, approximately
795,000 have a stroke each year in the
United States.

Strokes in California
In California, adults 65 years and older
have an 8.5% chance of having a stroke,
equivalent to 1 in 12 people. While the
age increases to 85 years old, the chance
of having a stroke is 16.1% or equivalent
to 1 in every 6 adults. The effects can be
life threatening and are directly
correlated to the area of the brain tissue
that is affected. Dependent of whether
the right side or left side of the brain is
harme, the effects can include paralysis
on one side of the body, vision problems,
speech impairments, memory loss, and
an altered behavioral style.

About Skills Plus
Skills Plus Program is an organization that specializes in assisting stroke survivors
and others with neurological impairments to readjust to everyday life. For more
than 30 years, Skills Plus has been teaching individualized classes that focus in
mobility, speech, and living skills for each of its students. Given the destruction and
damage strokes have on individuals, the founders of Skills Plus sought out to create
a socialized and innovative organization to revive the functional and cognitive skills
of these survivors.

The Need of the Program
Skills Plus differentiates itself as a recovery program in one major aspect that
reflect the purpose of the organization: socialization. The three main classes in
mobility, speech, and living skills have both group sessions with specialized
teachers and assistants as well as individual one-on-one appointments.

Independent Living Skills
The independent living skills focuses on arm and hand exercises, meal preparation
in the kitchen, and hand-eye coordination with an emphasis on motor skills.

Mobility Skills
The purpose of the mobility classes are to work on ambulation, balance, flexibility,
strength, and endurance with and without a wheel chair.

Communication Skills
The communication skills classes are also focused around other standard exercises
like memory, listening, enunciation, reading, writing, and various computer skills.

Benefits of Socialization
Outside of the classroom there are many opportunities for the students to interact
with each other including planned events and birthday parties. Skills Plus pushes
for a strong emphasis on morale boosting in social settings in and out of the
classroom to reinforce the positive recovery process

Project Rationale
Skills Plus has relied heavily on word of mouth advertising, small advertisements in
the news paper, and quarterly catalogs; but they are now at a point where they
need to reach out to more people in order to increase the number of clients.
Sunrise Consulting hopes to assist Skills Plus with an all-encompassing marketing
outreach project to increase awareness of the program as well as bring more stroke
survivors to them. We believe this is the best course of action to bring in more
clients as it will be low cost and target the correct markets.

Outreach Project
There are t wo major pieces to our outreach project: to their current clients and to
potential clients. For current clients, Skills Plus says they need to raise their prices
for the program and implement a new fee structure since they are $50,000 in debt.
Since the organization has good relationships with their clients, they do not want to
raise prices without reason. Our goal is to provide Skills Plus with an information
sheet they can give their clients justifying the increased price.

For their potential clients, we aim to create a flyer detailing their services, update
their brochure, as well as create business cards and update their website. We will
place the flyers and brochures in high volume areas such as hospitals and senior
centers. We have a contact with Kaiser hospital we can contact to help us with
placement of the flyer. The updated website will provide a much more user friendly
experience to both potential and current clients.

Since Skills Plus relies heavily on three teachers and all other work is done by
volunteers, we will create a volunteer posting on Handshake or Indeed. We also
plan to do this for an internship program, since many post undergraduate schools
require a certain amount of hours working in an environment similar to this.

Goals
Skills Plus is an incredible organization that helps many people, but they are facing
a serious problem when it comes to their bottom line. Their two main issues are
prices that are too low and lack of outreach to the community, and our proposal
addresses both. Skills Plus will see an increase in clients as well as a decrease in the
deficit.

Deliverables
Brochure
● We will design and print a brochure that has updated information and a
clean aesthetic. We plan to distribute this to Kaiser Permanente, local senior
centers, community centers, and churches.
● The brochure will include contact information and details on each of the
three different classes Skills Plus offers.
Infographic Flyer
● Skills Plus has an older demographic that would like to be informed and
aware of an increase in program fees.
● To effectively communicate to the students, we will create a flyer that clearly
outlines the fee increase, reasoning, and the results of fee increase.
Business Card
● Our general marketing efforts surround outreach, and an updated business
card would help establish Skills Plus’ reputation and image in the community.
● Creating a business card with updated contact information and a clean look
will help spread awareness of the program.
Website
● The Skills Plus website is another marketing tool that Skills Plus uses for
general updates on its operations, it’s accomplishments, and upcoming
events.
● Updating the website is updating the facade of Skills Plus. Our aim is allow
people to better understand the program and increase awareness.
Facebook Page
● Facebook is the destination for Skills Plus’ information, location, and general
social media presence and activity.
● We will update the Facebook page with pictures of recent activity,
information, and important events, giving the public a better sense of the
programs Skills Plus offers and contact information.
Internship Posting
● Many Skills Plus employees and volunteers are only available part time,
which creates a shortage of staff too often.
● Creating an internship program via Handshake will allow college students to
work with the students, build their resume, and gain experience while
assisting this program.

Cost Analysis
Our marketing outreach project is low cost and will generate increased awareness
and understanding of the program Skills Plus offers. The majority of our costs
originate from consultant labor rather than materials. We will charge $20 per hour
spent; we came to this number based on industry standards. Based on research
done on business cards, brochures, and printing, we came to an estimated cost for
each deliverable that will not put a burden on Skills Plus.

Our project aims to update and modify Skills Plus’ online presence in addition to
physical deliverables. This will lead to an increase in student enrollment in the
program as well as retention of current students.

Success Metrics
In order to accurately assess the success of our deliverables, we have a few success
metrics in place.

The first and foremost success metric is to analyze how much (if any) money we are
able to save for the company. This can be achieved through a free online website,
recruiting new clients, and cutting down costs in any other area.

We can also track the success of our deliverables through the amount of likes,
shares, and followers on social media posts through Facebook.

By implementing an internship program, we hope to attract local employees to help
contribute and strengthen the program. The success of the internship program will
be evaluated by the number of individuals who express interest in the internship.

Communication with clients about the raise in prices can be evaluated through a
survey that the clients will participate in where they rank from 1-10 how helpful the
infographic and communication was in this field.

Community outreach will be evaluated by the number of contacted organizations,
the number of interested organizations, and the number of references to our
program from such organizations.

Discussion
Implications
The main takeaway our team has received from this project with Skills Plus was our
ability to follow through with our deliverables. We set out to complete a marketing
campaign that involved both tangible and intangible success metrics. We gained
insight on working with a nonprofit, having to navigate much more on our own.
They prioritize their mission and work, where we explored the business side to it -
their image, their marketing, and an overall trend towards not being in the red.

Our team also developed new skills in communication in an actual business setting,
where we each had our responsibilities and deliverables. We learned the
importance of being communicative with fellow team members in coordinating our
efforts in creating the deliverables.

Limitations
After our initial meeting with Carrie at Skills Plus, our consulting team was eager to
help the organization in any and every way possible. This excitement motivated our
team to provide the best assistance to Skills Plus, however we overestimated our
capabilities given the time short frame. The limited time frame provided a
roadblock to completing the deliverables in a timely manner. Because we focused
our efforts on completing the brochure, flyer, business cards, and infographic, we
did not have time to officially post the internship opportunity on Handshake. We
also found difficulties in getting authorization to alter social media platforms.

Recommendations
If this project were to be replicated, we recommend that the team conducts weekly
meetings to check-in on the status of the project and work on the deliverables. We
felt as though we came up with more deliverables than we were able to execute
during the 10 week period we worked with Skills Plus. Therefore, we would suggest
that a team creates a list of five deliverables with a significant impact on the
organization to work on during the time period.
