Information about Synopsis

Before starting to work on Project work, student has to send a Synopsis to Department get it
approved. The synopsis is a brief out line (about four to six A4 size pages or 1000 words is the
maximum limit) of your future work.
A synopsis must have the following headings:
 Title: Should reflect the objectives of the study. (Font: Times new Roman, 14pt, Bold,
center alignment, Title case)
 Introduction: Should contain brief background of the selected topic. It
must identify the importance of study, its relevance and applicability of
results. It must clearly state the purpose of the study.
 Advantages: Should contain applications or advantages of the selected topic.
 Disadvantages: Should contain limitations or drawback of the selected topic.
 Objectives: An objective is an intent of what the student/team wants to do stated in clear
measurable terms.
 Modules: Should contain brief information about modules contained in your project.
 Software Requirement Specification: A Software requirements specification describes
the requirements of hardware and software to be developed.
 Bibliography: is an alphabetized list of sources that have been used to develop the
synopsis. This list is found at the end of the synopsis.

Normal text: Font: Times new Roman, 12pt, Justify, Line spacing 1.5lines, before=after=0pt.
Listing: 1st level: Solid bullets, 2nd level: Hollow bullets.
Table caption: Times new Roman, 12pt, Italic, Centre alignment, Comes above the table.
Figure Caption: Times new Roman, 12pt, Italic, Centre alignment, Comes below the table.

Guidelines for preparing the BCA Main Project Report
These guidelines highlight the basic rules necessary for maintaining the quality, format, and
appearance of the synopsis or main project report submitted to University. It is the responsibility
of the students and their respective Guide or Co-Guide to abide by the rules/requirements
mentioned in this document. The synopsis or main project report will not be accepted if these
criteria are not fulfilled. All BCA students should consult their guides for additional requirements,
if any.
Components of the synopsis or main project report
Each and every synopsis or main project needs to include the following:
1. Cover Page and Title Page
2. Certificate Page
3. Declaration Page
4. Acknowledgements (Besides acknowledging the usual stakeholders, make sure you also
acknowledge institutes/collaborators for the timely help)
5. Table of Contents
6. List of Tables
7. List of Figures

STYLE AND FORMAT
 The synopsis / project report should be written in error-free English. The entire thesis must
be written in TIMES NEW ROMAN font (black color), size 12, and should be kept justified
(it should not be left-aligned, right-aligned, or centered).
 The required line spacing would be 1.5.
 The margin should be 1.5” away from the left (to leave some space for binding) and 1”
away from the right, top, and bottom. The text of the thesis must be justified, unless
necessary otherwise.
 Header and Footer: The Header (Title of the project name on all pages; right-aligned) and
Footer (College name and page number in Arabic numerals, right- aligned) should be
created using the TIMES NEW ROMAN font, size 10, and in the title case (with the first
letter of each word capitalized).
 Headings, and Sub-headings:
 All headings must be subsequently numbered and must be in the TIMES NEW ROMAN
font, size 16, bold, and in the UPPER CASE and Centre-aligned.
 All sub-headings should be subsequently numbered using the TIMES NEW ROMAN font
(regular), size 14, with the title case (wherein the first letter of each word is capitalized).
All sub-headings should be left-aligned.
 The rest of the text should be in the TIMES NEW ROMAN font, size 12, and should be
justified.
