Got a question for u know it all “mechanics”. I have an 01 eclipse 3.0. Has a cylinder 1 misfire. Already replaced
plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. Also replaced valve cover gaskets recently. This problem was here before all
that. It still has tons of power, but slightly stumbles on take off. If I clear the code and start it up, it triggers the light
almost immediately. Any ideas?

I'd check compression 5

Probable valve issue 3

Replaced that gasket when I took the plenum off to change plugs and wires

Spray around. Just did a motor swap on this vehicle last weekend. The intake plenum is highly
susceptible to warping

Good idea. I’ll do that tomorrow

Check compression. Warp is a probable cause for this. JB weld fix all and send it till she blows 5
John Featherman
Sounds good to me if it’s warped

What I did is take a piece of glass and wrap sand paper onto it with tape. Make figure 8s with the
plenum until it glides across the paper smooth.

Valve cover would not cause a misfire unless its complete trash

I think ya'll are forgetting you have to pull the plenum to do the back valve cover so he already did
it 1
Aaron Barton
Doesnt matter when the plenum isnt sealing

Doesn't mean it's not warped and not sealing. The sebrings did the same thing if it's not true have it
milled

Do a compression check. 3
Steven Crump
It doesnt have a distributor. Compression check, smoke test intake for leak, test injector.

Tbh for problems like this id take a look at the spark plugs and compare the wear. They usually tell you
a story. The color alone might tell you if its fuel or ignition related issues. But id recommend that you
check fpr proper spark and fuel psi before you start spending on things you dont really need. 1

Also seen a crack in the flexplate cause a p0301 if its an automatic 1

If not enough spark then it could be a coil or dizzy and cap issue. If fuel then id check injector
connector before jumping into fuel psi and injector resistance. 1

That has a distributor? Pretty sure mitsubishi has been using coil packs since at least 89. Not sure on
how many models tho.

Move the injector on cylinder 1 to another hole and see if the miss follows. If it does, you need an
injector. If it doesn't you need a noid light to check if the wiring and PCM can fire the injector. If thats
ok, get an inline spark checker and put it on the #1 and make sure it has spark. If all that is ok, its base
engine issue. 2

The problem is that it's a 3rd gen pos so my recommendation is get a 2nd gen pos gsx and have a whole
bunch of issues, then you can go on fb and forums and ask half ads questions with half ass information
because you're too cheap to go to a mechanic or too lazy to do some research. Rant over, check the cam
position sensor before tearing down the engine. That can give you a misfire.

Well you could move injectors to see if the miss moves, you could do a compression test to see if you
have a dead cylinder, im gonna assume all parts were installed correctly and gapped. You could also
clean your maf, these cars depend hugely on that. And crank and cam sensors. Just ideas. Also I have the
repair manual if you need any info let me know I can snap a picture for you
