Hello! And welcome to a tutorial about how

to create an infographic with Canva, a
simple graphic design tool that every
teacher can use!

Before we begin, make sure that you have a

computer with internet access.
You will then need to open an internet
browser. Once your browser has loaded,
click in the URL bar and type
www.canva.com. Then hit enter.

You should now see the Canva home

screen. As you can see, Canva can be used
to create many different print and digital
media. For this tutorial, we will focus on
infographics.

An infographic is a collection of imagery,

charts, and minimal text that gives an easy-
to-understand overview of a topic.
You will need to create a Canva account
before you can use the program. Three
options for this are using Facebook, Google,
or providing your own information. Click on
the option you prefer, and then confirm your
email address.

Return to the Canva home screen. Click the

“Log in” button in the top right; then provide
your log in credentials and click “Log In”.

Now that you are logged in, you should see

your Canva Home screen. Since we will br
creating an infographic, next you will need
to click in the “search templates” bar. Type
the word “infographic”. A suggested list will
auto-populate based on the text you enter.
Select the “infographic” option.

Now you are in the editing window of

Canva. On the left-hand side of the screen,
scroll through the infographic templates that
Canva provides. Choose the one that fits
your topic and information by clicking on it.

Once you select your template, it will

appear on the right-hand side of the editing
window.

Title your infographic by selecting the title in

the blue bar at the top of the window and
then typing your title.

Adjust the zoom of the template by clicking

on the zoom feature in the bottom left.
Make sure that the template is clearly visible
for editing purposes. You can also minimize
the left menu.
Now you are ready to edit.
To change text, select the text box, highlight
the text, then type your new text over the
text of the template. You can change font,
size, color, alignment, and other text options
from the bar at the top of the screen.

Continue editing by scrolling down the

infographic template. You can change the
color of the elements by selecting them,
then going to the color tiles at the top left of
the editing window.

You may also want to include photos, icons,

graphics, backgrounds, grids, charts, your
own images, or many other options to your
infographic. You may do so by clicking on
the element you wish to add on the left-
hand side of the screen. This will expand the
left-hand side of the screen again.

To search for elements, click in the top

search bar and type what you wish to
search for. Once you find what you’re
looking for, to insert it, simply click on it and
drag it onto the template on the right. You
can then position it by dragging or even
resize it by dragging its corners. Here I am
adding an image to my infographic.

Again, you may change the colors of some

elements by clicking on them, then selecting
the color change boxes at the top left. Here,
I am changing the background of the
infographic.

To use images of your own in your

infographic, select the “Uploads” option on
the left.
Then click on the “Upload an Image”
button. You may choose an image file that
you have saved on your computer. Simply
select the image, then click open. The
image will upload. Then you can add it to
your template like any other element.

Once you finish adding content and editing

your infographic, it’s time to publish it.
Canva offers many different options for
publishing content. To publish, click on the
arrow to the right of “Download” in the top
right corner of the Canva window. You will
see options to present, download, publish to
social media, email, and several others. We
will cover the two most popular options.

If you wish to present from the Canva

webpage, click “present” and you will be
able to use the infographic as a teaching
tool via the web.

If you wish to download, select “Download”,

and Canva will automatically download the
finished file in the format that you choose, to
your computer.

Now that you have published your Canva

Infographic, it will automatically save to your
designs in your Canva account. Return to
the Home page by clicking “Home” at the
top left of the screen. If you scroll down, you
will see your infographic! You can go back
and edit your design at any time by clicking
on it.

Remember to log out by clicking the arrow

next to your name in the top left, then
clicking “Sign out.”
Now you’re a Canva Pro!
