Benefits Of Applying Cow Dung

The recent researches have proved that Cow dung has the power to kill bacteria which are
harmful for humans. Cow Dung is considered good for health. It is very rich in minerals and
a great factor of anti-bacterial. It prevents people from various diseases and health issues.

Small insects like scorpions, centipedes etc don’t come near to the places which are coated
with the paste of Cow dung.

Cow Dung acts as a natural mosquito repellent. Mosquitoes stay away from such places.

The floor which is coated with cow Dung remains warm in winters and cold in summers.

In rural areas, people apply cow-dung on outer walls of their homes and let them dry.
Villagers use these dry cow dung cakes as fuel.

It is said that if we follow vedic techniques and live vedic way then our lives can be disease-
free.

Laterites are soil types rich in iron

and aluminium, formed in hot and wet
tropical areas. Nearly all laterites are
rusty-red because of iron oxides. They
develop by intensive and long-lasting weathering of the underlying parent rock. Tropical
weathering (laterization) is a prolonged process of chemical weathering which produces
a wide variety in the thickness, grade, chemistry and ore mineralogy of the resulting
soils. The majority of the land area containing laterites is between the tropics of Cancer
and Capricorn.
Historically, laterite was cut into brick-like shapes and used
in monument building..

Conical-shaped Roof

The conical roof is a three dimensional structure that is commonly used in rural
areas. It is easy to assemble and can be built with locally available materials,
making it inexpensive. It must be constructed with a slope appropriate to the
roofing materials used to prevent it from leaking. The conical roof design is limited
to rather short spans and to either circular or small square buildings. It does not
allow for any extensions. If modern roofing materials are used there is considerable
waste because of the amount of cutting necessary to obtain proper fit.

A conical-shaped roof structure requires rafters and purling, and in circular

buildings, a wall plate in the form of a ring beam. This ring beam has three
functions:

 a to distribute the load from the roof evenly to the wall,

 b to supply a fixing point for the rafters, and
 c to resist the tendency of the inclined rafters to press the walls outward
radially by developing tensile stress in the ring beam. If the ring beam is
properly designed to resist these forces and secondary ring beams are
installed closer to the center, a conical roof can be used on fairly large
circular buildings.

In the case of square buildings, the outward pressure on the walls from the inclined
rafters cannot be converted to pure tensile stress in the wall plate. Instead, it
resembles the hip roof structure and should be designed with the angle ties across
the wall plates at the corners.

These three methodologies culminated in the development of the
bioclimatic skyscraper, for which Ken Yeang has become most
famous. He proposed an approach to tall buildings that respond to the
climatic conditions of their site. Often incorporating the integration of
vegetation and vertical gardens, use of skycourts, natural ventilation
and the influence of solar geometry to achieve self-shading structures.

Yeang's development of ideas for a climate-generated architecture,

radically changed preconceptions about appropriate forms for high-
rise and urban planning. Many of the ecologically sustainable
buildings being developed today, owe their design principles to the
methodology Ken Yeang developed almost forty years ago.

He continues to apply his principles of ecoarchitecture today in his

practice T. R. Hamzah and Yeang and it's sister offices in the UK as
Llewelyn Davies Yeang and in China as North Hamzah Yeang
Architectural and Engineering Company (Beijing).

Ken Yeang is both an architect and ecologist, known for his authentic
innovative ecology-based signature ecoachitecture and masterplans
that have a distinctive verdant green aesthetic, that are beyond
conventional accreditation. He trained at the Architectural
Association School (UK). His doctorate is from Cambridge
University on ecological architecture and planning. He has authored
over 12 books on green architecture. Awards received include the Aga
Khan Award, Malaysian Institute of Architects Gold Medal,
Malaysian Government’s Merdeka Award. He holds the
Distinguished Plym Professorship (Illinois University). The Guardian
newspaper names him as, “..one of the 50 people who could save the
planet..
