Users have expressed a pressing need for a Reference Manual containing related data and information. TATA STEEL. Tubes Division, being the pioneer and the largest producer of RHS/SHS in the county is pleased fo take the initiative to publish this Manual to the advantage of designers and in the interests of further popularising the use of these elegant structural element. This Manual provides a range of "Ready-to-Use" designs for pitched Roof Trusses ranging from §.$5m to 40.0m spans and Lean-to Trusses ranging from 1.5 m to 9.4m spans each in two different slopes. This also provides designs for Putlins, Side Grits etc, covering various industrial requiements, keeping in mind prevailing practice. For comparison and ready reference, recommended material requirement for roof truss of spans 9m, 12m, 24m, and 30m designed with conventional sections have been drawn from BIS Handbook, $°38-1987 and placed alongwith RHS /SHS requirement and possible savings. Other load pacities of single RHS/SHS as struts, tie members, beams and torsional members alongwith properties of compound sections of double RHS/ SHS have also been included for designers’ reference. It has been our sincere endeavour to make this Manual an authentic, reliable and useful one. in keeping with the reputation of Tata Steel. Jser's suggestions on corrections or inclusions on the contents are welcome to make this publication richer and we hope that practising engineers will accept this Handbook as a practical reference manual }
