COMBATIVE TYPE GAMES

GROUP

1. CHOCOLATE ROLL

Equipment - large high jump mat.

How To Play:
Object of the game is to push the pit to the other team’s line.
Teacher calls out various numbers and the students push the mat
against one another. Point awarded to team each time mat is
pushed over the line

2. BALL IN THE MIDDLE

Equipment - medicine ball


- big square of mats
How To Play:
Object of the game is to carry, roll, or throw medicine ball to your
side of the mat. Students must remain on hands and knees at all
times. Call out various numbers to wrestle for ball. Students are
not allowed to hold on to one another.

3. KNOTS - CRAZY GLUE

Equipment - big square of mats

How To Play:
Divide class into two teams. One team tangles itself up on the
mats. On a signal the other team runs to the mat and tries to pull
off various team members. Game continues until all team
members are off the mat. You can time teams to see how long it
takes. No kicking is allowed.

4. KANGAROO (Group)
- Each student puts bean bag between their knees and hands
behind their back
- Students bump into one another
- When bean bag falls student exits playing area

5. LINE TUG-O-WAR (Group)


- Class forms a line - side by side
- Each second person faces opposite direction
- Each team tries to pull other over the line

6. STAR CHASER
- Students in class choose a partner
- Sit students in a circle directly across from their partner
- Student must try to exit circle with star without being tagged by
their partner (scores a point)
- If student is tagged by partner before exiting circle no point if
given
- Give partners the same number

The next group of games is basically partner versus partner. Make


sure the students switch partners many times. A large square of
mats is needed for these activities. When you feel students have
done an activity long enough play music and they jog around the
mat. When the music stops they sit around the edge and watch
the next demonstration. In all of these games have the students
trade partners often. Allow them time to try the same game with
different people.

BALANCES

7. PATTY-CAKE
- Squat down facing your partner
- Arms are held at shoulder height, palms open
- Try to push partner over by pushing on palms

8. DANISH WRESTLING
- Stand facing your partner with one foot pressed against partners
- Grasp right or left hands
- Try to push or pull your partner off balance

9. FRONT SUPPORT KNOCK-DOWN


- Face your partner in a push-up position
- Try to knock partner down by pulling on the inside of their arms

10. HULA-HOOP
A.- Face partner with hoop between you
- Grasp hands and try to pull partner in hoop

B.- Face partner, each person standing in hoop


- Partners each grasp short rope with one hand
- Try to pull person out of the hoop

11. SIT AND PUSH


- Sit back to back and interlock arms
- One arm in - One arm out
- Try to twist person to the side

12. BUTT BUMP


- Stand back to back with partner - approx. 6 inches
- Try to knock partner off balance using your rear

13. WATER SPIDER TAG


- Students begin in an upright push-up position
- Heel to heel with their partner
- On signal go - one partner tries to catch the other partner by
moving around in the circle

STRENGTH

14. TIP THE EAGLE


- One person lies face down on the mat
- Arms are bent and hands placed under the chin
- Their partner tries to tip or roll person over
- 1 vs 1; 2 vs 1; 3 vs 1

15. TIP THE TURTLE


- One person kneels down on all fours
- Other person tries to tip or roll person onto their back

16. STUBBORN DONKEY


- One partner performs a front support
- Other person lifts their legs at the thigh-knee area
- They push person in front support position off balance if they can.
Donkey refuses to budge
17. STUBBORN DRIVER
- Donkey, try to move forward while driver (partner holding your
legs) resists

18. ARM WRESTLING


- Lie face down head to head with partner
- Interlock right or left hands
- Try to force partner’s hand to mat

19. SHOULDER WRESTLING


- Face partner while kneeling on all fours
- Touch right shoulders (left)
- Try to drive partner off mat

20. PULL ME
- Face partner with line running between you
- Join right hands
- Try to pull partner over the line

21. PULL OVER THE LINE


- Partners lie face down, head to head on each side of the line with
hands joined
- Try to pull other partner over the line

22. WALTZING HULK


- Face your partner
- Right arm on partner’s shoulder and left arm on waist - waltz
position
- Try to lift partner up

23. LEG WRESTLING


- Lie on your back beside but opposite partner
- Lift leg up and interlock with partner’s leg
- Try to flip partner over using leg only

24. TOE WRESTLING


- Sit on rear facing partner with knees bent
- Students should have shoes removed
- Try to get your toes under partner’s and tip them over
25. MUSK-OX
- Front support position facing your partner
- Each person puts their head under their partner’s arms
- Try to push one another over

26. TRACTOR PULL


- Stand back to back about 1/2 meter apart
- Bend over and clasp right arms between legs
- Try to pull partner over a designated line

27. TUG OF WAR


- Face partner and each grasp the end of a rope
- Try to pull partner over a line
- 1 vs 1; 2 vs 2; 3 vs 3; Class vs Class

28. POISON
- Make groups of four or five
- Join hand and form a circle
- In middle of circle have some skittles set up
- Pull or push with arms and try and make someone knock over a
skittle

29. FEET UP MOTHER BROWN


- One partner lies flat on the mat
- Other stands with a foot on each side of first student’s head
- The first student clasps the standing student’s ankles and lifts
their feet up so that their ankles can be grasped
- The standing student attempts to “throw” or “push” the legs of
the lying student to the mat. The lying student tries to resist

30. BEAN BAG PULL


- Students stand side by side and grasp hands
- In free hand, they drop bean bag to floor
- Student tries to pull other partner so they can pick up bean bag

31. BIONIC ARMS


- Two students face one another
- One student has fingertips together and elbows out
- Other student grasps partner’s wrists and tries to pull fingertips
apart

32. MAGIC WAND


- Partners stand face to face holding one stick palms down
- One player tries to hold the stick horizontal
- Other tries to turn it vertical

REFLEXES

33. THUMB WRESTLING


- Partners face one another and grip right hand fingers
- Thumb remains up in hitchhiker position
- Students try to trap partners thumb with their own
- Switch hands

34. KNEE BOXING


- Face partner and grasp one hand
- Try to touch partner’s knee with your free hand

35. GET BEHIND


- Stand behind your partner with your hands on their waist
- Partner twirls and takes and tries to get behind you
36. HAND SLAP
- Face partner and extend hand - palm up
- Partner puts hands on yours - palm down
- Try to lightly slap partner’s hands with yours

37. SHOES ON THIGHS


- Groups of 3 people sit beside one another with 2 feet between
them
- Person in middle slaps outside person’s thighs with their hands
- Outside people try to slap his hands with shoes
