General Overview of the Company

The first oil was actually discovered by the ancient Chinese back in 600 B.C. and
transported in pipelines made out of bamboos. However, Colonel Drake’s heralded
discovery of oil in Pennsylvania in 1859 and the Spindletop discovery in Texas in 1901
set the stage for the new oil economy.
Ever since, Petroleum has been playing a huge major role in our civilizations. With all
the technology breakthroughs in late 19 and 20 centuries, Petroleum emerges as the
preferred energy source. The demand evolved slowly across the society including in
technology, economics and politics due to the invention of numerous technologies.
Currently, the production rate of crude oil in Malaysia is 730 000 (seven hundred and
thirty thousand) barrels per day and this amount is believed to increase from time to time
due to high demands.
Established in 1974, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) is Malaysia’s fully
integrated oil and gas multinational ranked 191 among the largest corporations on
FORTUNE Global 500.
The growing demand for energy inspires and strengthens our purpose to steadily drive
for new solutions and push boundaries towards a sustainable energy future. Petronas apply
innovative approaches to technology which helps us unlock and maximize energy sources
from even the most remote and difficult environments. Fully integrated value chain of
PETRONAS spans from exploration to marketing, logistics to technological
infrastructures, operations in over 50 countries. Throughout the rapidly expanding
network and steady growth trajectory, PETRONAS has consistently and successfully
implemented various social, environmental and community programmes.
Petronas also invested in Myanmar gas production in Yetagun Gas field. Yetagun was
discovered in 1992 Dec. Initially it was a joint venture between Texaco, Premier Oil and

Nippon Oil. After that Petronas took over the project after Premier Oil withdrew in 2002.
Myanmar government granted the blocks M12,13, and 14. The gas produced from
Yetagun is combined with the gas produced from TOTAL at the metering station and
transports to Thailand according to the GSA agreement. All the field development
activities were started in 1996. Now it is a joint venture between Myanmar Oil and Gas
Enterprise, Petronas and Nippon Oil with PSC of (20.45%,40.91%,19.32%)
