both the cases the subjects are neither Maths nor Economics.
C) One subject chosen by A matched with one of the subjects of B and this subject was not
Economics.
Question 5: For how many students can the two subjects that they have chosen be determined?
a) 4
b) 6
c) 5
d) 3
Draw a table with names of the people in rows and names of trains and destinations in columns.
From (2), we can say that Abhi's train, Howrah Express and the train to Mumbai are different.
Similarly, from (6), we can say that Abhi's train, Rajdhani Express and the train to Hyderabad are
different.
From (5) and (9), we know the train and the destination of Bablu and Dubey respectively =>
Bablu is in Shatabdi Express and Dubey is going to Bangalore.
From (7) and (10), we know that Shatabdi Express, in which Bablu is travelling, is going to
Kolkata.
Abhi is not going to Mumbai and Hyderabad according to (2) and (6) => Abhi is going to Delhi.
Abhi is not going in Rajdhani Express and Howrah Express according to (2) and (6) => Abhi
must go in either AP Express or Duronto Express.
According to (8), AP Express does not go to Delhi => Abhi is travelling in Duronto Express to
Delhi.
=> Chintu is travelling in AP Express.
Rajdhani does not go to Mumbai, Kolkata or Hyderabad => Dubey is travelling in Rajdhani
Express to Bangalore.
Howrah Express does not go to Mumbai => Eisha is travelling in Howrah Express to Hyderabad.
=> Chintu is travelling in AP Express to Mumbai.
1) Answer (A)
2) Answer (D)
3) Answer (B)
4) Answer (C)
There are 4 subjects taken 2 at a time. Hence, number of combinations = 4 C 2 = 6. In these six
cases, each subject appears in 3 cases.
From the first statement, we can infer that the subjects that are present in common are Physics
and Chemistry. As F is present on both lists, F has both Physics and Chemistry. We know that C
has taken Physics. Therefore, Physics is common between C, D and F and Chemistry is
common between A, E and F. As we have assigned Physics and Chemistry 3 times each, none
of the other people has either of these two subjects. Hence,
B has neither Physics nor Chemistry => which means that B has Maths and Economics. From
Clue C, A has Maths. As A has Chemistry and Maths, D must have Physics and Economics from
clue B. The only combination left of Physics and another subject is Physics and Maths which
must be taken by C. Hence, E has Chemistry and Economics.
5) Answer (B)
6) Answer (A)
7) Answer (D)
8) Answer (B)
