Time: 3 hrs. Max. Marks: 80

Note: Answer FIVE full questions, choosing one full question from each module.
2. Any revealing of identification, appeal to evaluator and /or equations written eg, 42+8 = 50, will be treated as malpractice.

Module-1
1 Determine the deflection of a beam-column subjected to continuous lateral loads. (16 Marks)

OR
2 A beam is subjected to an axial force ‘P’ and a lateral force ‘Q’. Determine the deflection
curve suing energy method (use the trigonometric series function for initial deflection
curve). (16 Marks)

Module-2
3 Determine the critical load carrying capacity of fixed free column by using energy method.
(16 Marks)

OR
4 A symmetric frame hinged at bottom is shown in Fig. Q4. All the members have same
flexural rigidity EI and length ‘l’. The expression for the rotation θ, at the top point is given
 Ka  1
as     where
 K a _ 2K b  
Ka = relative stiffness of columns,
Kb = relative stiffness of the beam
The buckled configuration of the column is given by
