(Personal Preparation and Storage of Safe Water)
HEALTH
Grade 6 – Environmental Health – 3rd Quarter (H6EH)
LEARNING COMPETENCY
The learner discusses ways to keep water clean and safe.
CODE: H6EH-IIIc-3
Duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes
Session
Key The quality of water and the quality of life in all its infinite forms
Understandings are critical parts of the over-all, on-going health of this planet
to be developed of ours. Learners get sick and illnesses can spread very fast in
schools where they are together for many hours.
After an emergency, such as flood, hurricane, or earthquake,
drinking water may not be available or safe to drink. As a
result, people may have to find a source of safe drinking water
or know how to treat their water for use in certain activities,
such as drinking, making ice, washing hands, and brushing
teeth. The following information will tell you how to plan for
treating and storing your water in the event of an emergency.
Before an emergency:
 Make sure you have a Disaster Supplies Kit. Be sure to
include sanitation and hygiene items.
 Pack the items in easy-to-carry containers. Duffle bags,
backpacks, and covered trash receptacles are good
candidates for containers.
 Label the containers clearly.
 Store the containers and the rest of your kit where they
are easily accessible.
Prepare an Emergency Water Supply
• Store at least 1 gallon of water per day for each person
and each pet. You should consider storing more water
than this for hot climates, for pregnant women, and for
persons who are sick.
• Store at least a 3-day supply of water for each person
and each pet (try to store a 2-week supply if possible).
• Observe the expiration date for store-bought water;
replace other stored water every six months.
• Store a bottle of unscented liquid household chlorine
bleach to disinfect your water and to use for general
cleaning and sanitizing.

Note to Faci: Presents Slide Nos. 11-14 if the session is stand

alone. If the session is presented in connection with other
sessions, hide the slide nos. 11-14.

Make Water Safe

Boiling
If you don’t have safe bottled water, you should boil water to
make it safe. Boiling is the surest method to make water safer
to drink by killing disease-causing organisms, including viruses,
bacteria, and parasites.
You can improve the flat taste of boiled water by pouring it
from one container to another and then allowing it to stand for
a few hours, or by adding a pinch of salt for each liter of boiled
water.
Learning At the end of the session, you are able to:
Objectives  enumerate and discuss ways on personal preparation
and storage of safe water
 simulate ways on personal preparation and storage of
safe water during emergencies, disasters and survival
activities
 value the importance of proper ways on personal
preparation and storage of safe water
Resources  Cartolina
 Brown Envelope
 Coupon Bond
 Presentation Files
 Laptop, projector and screen
 1 liter water per group

Sitwasyon 1

BSP/GSP Camporal Encampment.
barangay. Sa inyong pagha-hiking, kayo ay naligaw at
napalayo sa iba pang pangkat. Sa kasamaang palad wala
kayong dalang tubig. Sa inyong paglilibot, alas! Nakakita
kayo ng isang balon.
Paano ninyo matutugunan ang inyong pangangailangan
sa isang maayos, malinis at ligtas na paraan.
Isadula ang mga kasagutan batay sa sitwasyon.
Sitwasyon 2

Sitwasyon 3

pamumuhay. Naapektuhan din ang ating mga pananim,
regular na gawaing pangkalinisan at pangkalusugan at iba
pa.
ganitong sitwasyon.
Isadula ang mga kasagutan batay sa sitwasyon.
Analysis (10 min.) Guide the participants to analyze the group presentations
based on the following guide questions:
 How do you find the activity?
 What is your reaction to the activity?
 Is water important in your daily lives? Why?
 How can you maintain the safeness of drinking water?
 How can you help to save water?
 What can you do before and after the calamities?

Note to Faci: Use binocular language when asking a question.

Application (25  Hands on Activity: How to boil water
min.)  Participants will construct a “Panatang Makatubig” by
completing the phrase:
“Ako ay nanunumpa na …”

Concluding  Close the session with a quote:

Activity (10 min.)
“We shall not defeat any of the infectious diseases that
plague the developing world until we have also won the
battle for safe drinking water, sanitation, and basic
health care.” – Kofi Annan
