Be careful while working near the heated oven.

III. Procedures:

1. Weight the ball of gum and record to get initial weight.

2. Chew the gum until the sweet taste is gone.

3. Place the gum into the oven to dry out all moisture from the saliva.

4. Weight the chewed gum, the put it into the oven again. Repeat the procedure until the weight

does not change anymore.

5. Use subtraction to find how many g of sugar is there, then find the percentage of sugar.

IV. Data & Calculations:

Initial weight 8g
Chewed and dehydrated (1st time) 1.2g
Chewed and dehydrated (2nd time) 1.2g

Grams of sugar: 6.8g

Percentage of sugar: 82.5%

V: Conclusion question:

How many grams and how many percentage of sugar is in a ball of gum.

The percentage sugar in an 8g ball of gum is 82.5% (6.8g of sugar).

VI: Conclusion Statement:

We did a lab that required to find the percentage ad grams of sugar in a ball of gum, which

Vincent chewed to remove all the sugar and dehydrate to remove the moisture from saliva. We then

weighted the remaining gum to find out the answers:

The percentage sugar in an 8g ball of gum is 82.5% (6.8g of sugar).

Error could occur based on how Vincent felt when there is no sugar left when he chewed the

gum. Maybe he has taste disorder that he can’t define when the sweet taste disappeared.
